Georgia Tech’s home football game versus UCF in Week 3 of the upcoming 2020 season has been moved to Friday, Sept. 18 to accommodate a nationally televised broadcast on ESPN or ESPN2.

The game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, Sept. 19 but ESPN approached Georgia Tech to move the contest to Friday night, as ESPN desired to televise the game on one of its two flagship networks. After consulting with UCF and campus and community partners, and following head coach Geoff Collins’ conversations with dozens of local high school football coaches, Georgia Tech agreed to the move.

With the guaranteed primetime kickoff, Georgia Tech has designated the contest as its annual Whiteout game. Additional promotions and events specific to the contest will be finalized and announced at a later date.

Solid move on the white out with it being a september night game. Might make some ucf fans think twice about coming too being on a Friday. Should be a good atmosphere.

Usually not thrilled about non-Saturday games (especially at home) but this specific case sounds pretty good.

Really sucks for out-of-towners who have to endure another weekday game after the Thursday season opener. Hopefully the hit to attendance isn't as bad as NCST last year.

Hard to argue with having this game move to national TV. As weird as it is UCF has cache. Also avoid the conflict with Music Midtown. Take Friday off and tailgate all day anyway.

Traffic is gonna suck. Sucks for HS ball. But this is way better than a nooner in Sept.

Most mid-town teams play early in the day because of violence the darker it gets.

It does suck for guys like me with commitments on Friday night HS football. My weekend is supposed to go HS football- college football- pro football. I hate when it is messed up.

ATL UTD also plays at home on 9/19 at 3:30pm, so avoids that potential conflict for me. I approve.

I understand the decision but think Friday night college games should be outlawed...maybe even amend the Constitution reserving Friday nights in the Fall for HS games only. It’s the way it should be.

now get off my lawn.

HS will start scheduling around us

I don't agree. This is yet another example of short-term thinking by college football admins, constantly chasing ratings at the expense of the many little things that make college football better and different.
Friday night at BDS will be awesome

Actually not as bad for me. I typically have to take at least half the day off for Thursday games and usually take Friday off also because I don't get home til 2am.
