Tech Spring Practice

From the AJC:

Coach Geoff Collins’ football team completed its sixth of 15 spring practices Thursday morning. Practice was to resume after spring break, which takes place next week. The resumption of practice, including the spring game scheduled for April 10, seems very much in doubt.

On their own (I am assuming coaches can not be involved), can the players lift and/or run, as an example, passing drills during all this?

Pretty sure the players can continue to do anything that they were doing before spring practice started. Strength training with our strength coach would be fine. And they can certainly run their own drills any time they want. I think the key word was “organized”.

Yep

For NCAA, organized practice means coach driven. If the players wanted to, they could strap up and do practice themselves.

It will be interesting to see if they come up with a way to compensate for the lost practice time, like extended fall camp or a summer practice period.

That’s a good point. Seems like it would be easy enough for NCAA to extend fall camp or whatever since it applies to everyone.

The only problem with this is injuries. I’d rather have Spring practice done when the freshman first arrive on campus or just do practice in May.

Yeah, this usually goes like this when they're outside of normal practice:

Coach: Hey, you remember those XYZ drills where you did that stuff?
Player A: Yeah, coach, those were tough.

Player A: Hey guys, let's get together and run XYZ drills.
Other Players: Yeah, let's do that.

I wouldn't worry about practice so much. I don't think we will play any sports rest of year.

I assume you mean school year here right? If so, I agree. That's a pretty bet I'd say considering CDC's recent guidance on gatherings over 50 people for the next 8 weeks. That puts us basically into summer time.
