Who are you most excited about / interested to see in the fall? I think for me it's Antonneous. We could've used some strength and size on the edge last year. He's got 1 season to really bring it and show everyone what he can do.

On offense- I'd go with Marquez Ezzard. We've got some good talent at WR, but he can be a difference-maker.

Go Jackets!!
Bottom line is that all teams who run the spread are a run first offense and we will be no different. probably 70-30 or so in games we win and 55-45 in games we don't. that's a comm
Against UVa, Pitt, Citadel, USF and Temple it was a factor.

Against Miami and Clemson it was a positive. Clemson was a loss no matter what.

Duke, UNC, UGa, VT and NCSt it was a wash.

Playcalling to our talent wins us probably 2 more games last year. Maybe 3 and a bowl loss. Long term it probably sets us back a year or two, regardless of what Collins ultimately delivers.
it's not complicated, OL is what will set us up for more wins (hopefully) as we go forward. despite the fact CGC had to advertise a neeeew 21st century passing offense as he inherited the single wing, all spreads/rpos are run-first offenses, as well. just not in the traditional sense of the TO. i'd expect run/pass ratios to be 70/30 in wins, closer to 50/50 in losses. no real surprises. as astutely mentioned, talent will be the key, especially as we grow our OL and can control some scrimmage line.

i have always been a big TO fan (still am, go navy!), but you can't push back on play-calling in year one. they were just trying to find something that worked, between OL backing into our QB and the QB shot-putting lawn darts down the field. at the end of the day, we didn't have OL talent to win, whether running our 2019 offense, the TO or madden 2019. when the jimmy and joes can hold a block on the OL, then we can all bitch about play-calling. not worth even thinking about last season or play-calling right now.

I'm looking forward to seeing if we can make FG's and kick touch backs with our PWO Freshmen

This. Anything else is denial.

One thing that is interesting is
a) we were a young team last year with almost everyone coming back, AND
b) we will have quite a few new starters.

That's incredible. It is usually one or the other. Plus a few coming back from injuries.

This fall's team (see what I did there?) will have almost nothing to do with last year's team. Even the returning players will be different. For example, and I don't say either way if he will win and keep his job, last year's quarterback was a redshirt freshman in a new system and that same quarterback will be a redshirt sophomore with a year in system. He will be physically different coming into this season. His muscle memory will be different coming into this season. He will be mentally different coming into this season. All good things.

I want to see if the offensive play calling improves. Last year was a öööö show that didn’t match our personnel at all. Most of the comments, that weren’t specifically player directed, matched complaints from Temple fans the past two years (but specifically year 1). I am curious to see if Pat was trying different looks and calls to see what our guys could do, if the calls were to show recruits what we want to be, or if that was just his playcalling style.

I am inclined to think he was trying to get some clips together to sell recruits. Both GT and Temple were coming from run heavy offenses that weren’t accustomed to negative plays, so I think that may be part of the similarity of complaints.

I’m not sure what CGC envisions for his preferred offense. It certainly isn’t a Meyer/Mullen shotgun option. It isn’t I formation. And it doesn’t look to be a hurry up.

The offense will be fine. You have to understand that we were working with a very limited play set last year.

I dont think he will be a starter on opening day. One of the freshman will beat him out.

How? When? Can't beat somebody out if you don't get any reps. Not sure when these reps are supposed to happen but without spring practice you are left with the few weeks before school starts (and that is, by some accounts, optimistic).

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with you in principal about who can beat out who but there is a certain amount of time required to do the actual beating and I don't know where its coming from.

Fair point. I suppose starting your year vs Clemson would not be a great confidence boost for any true frosh either. I revise my thought to Graham will be replaced by mid-season.

I'm neither agreeing nor disagreeing. My point is with normal progression Graham will be unrecognizable this fall compared to what we saw last year.

Competition is king, and I love our new quarterbacks. I think though that both would be best served by watching for a year. For their sake. If one has to start it is because the team direly needs him.

With a dramatically improved line, think about the extra separation he can get when the QB has a little extra time.

Or just complete his route normally (before he has to come back to the qb who is busy scrambling for his life.)

Can't wait to watch the Miami game today. I recorded it Tuesday but didn't watch it - I'm having a one-man tailgate in my house and am going to watch the game this afternoon. The really cool thing is that I get to pick the kickoff time - hint - not noon.

NC St @ GT today at noon on ACCCN. Fancy that. Even Corona can't stop GT from playing noon games. Geez.

I hope you are right [that Graham will be unrecognizable]. Based on last year, if he is our QB again this year, we will be in some seriously hot water. Not just in 2020, but for years to come.

He is an exceptional ath, but he ranked dead last in the ACC in QBR (35.8, #109 overall). If he wins the QB competition, that will speak more about the quality of this backups than anything else.

Disclaimer: I know he was a Fr/in a new system, and the OL will be much improved this year.
