They are #11 in the country in total defense. In comparison, UNC is #6 and VT is #12. We scored 24 on UNC and 28 on VT.

Meanwhile, they average 23 points per game. With our defense, I would kick that up into the 24-28 range.

To say that we haven't seen a defense of their caliber is clearly wrong, but it won't be a blow out either.

I think the key part of this game is going to be what the actual comparison of athleti**** is. It's not something easy to tell when comparing teams from different conferences. However, the Big 10 is somewhat know for lacking in athleti**** and if it is true enough for us our defense can have a solid performance.

Try telling Terrel Pryor that the Big 10 doesn't have athletes. He's not the best QB, but he's a heck of an athlete.

Iowa seems very slow to me from the few times I've watched them on TV.

I agree with the OP, this should be a good game. I am very excited for this match up.

This may just be my biased opinion, but I think that we win because we have more to prove and more to play for:

1. Prove that modern GT can win a bowl game.
2. Prove that 3+ weeks of preparation is not "all you need" to beat CPJ's offense.
3. Try to gain some respect for the ACC.
4. Erase nearly all the the flex bone doubters in the national media.
5. Get a high preseason ranking.

... feel free to add more

I didn't say it was for all teams and definitely not for all players. I'd say Ohio St and eventually Michigan do not fall into that category.

This will be a great game.. I believe we win this.. I truly do :) but Iowa will play hard, I just see us playing harder..

Iowa will get caught in a buzzsaw, PJ won't lose two bowl games in a row, he wants to prove people wrong about having a month to prepare for his offense.

They don't have the playmakers on offense that has killed us this year, like Spiller. They are not that good running the ball and their QB throws a lot of int's. I don't think we struggle on defense as much this game.

I hope he can, but I'm already convinced that a month doesn't help... even if, god forbid, he loses this game (which I don't think he will).

The reason why a month doesn't help? Look at Clemson. We've played them 3 times in 14 months or so, and they still aren't stopping us. And Clemson has a pretty good defense.

I guess it comes down to this. What is more helpful: playing against us multiple times or playing once but having a decent amount of time to prepare.

It's the high-powered passing games (spread or pro) and the fast RB's that have killed us this year. More normal offenses we have fairly well contained.

Pryor and OSU had one of their better rushing games against Iowa also, putting up better total yards and ypc carry number than against Navy, Purdue and Indiana (actually ypc was a little hire here at 4.7 vs 4.5 but Indiana is awful).

really? :ugh:

:p

I think this favors us. Alot. Iowa struggled against some bad teams. They seem to be very well coached, but I can't imagine that they have the type of athletes that can disrupt our offense. We should be heavily favored going into this game, and we should live up to that.

Isn't it true that Iowa has trailed in every game they've played this season?

That doesn't mean anything by itself, but we seem to play well when we can keep the pressure on the other team's offense to keep scoring, knowing that they won't be able to stop us...

To be honest, while Ricky Stanzi is a good quarterback, if we can get pressure he is capable of making bad decisions.

http://espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=188298

56% completed on 275 attempts with 15 tds, 14 ints, and 21 sacks.

The big worry, from what I've seen of Iowa, is making sure we tackle their receivers quick when they catch the ball.

When have we been able to get pressure on anyone?
