2012 Recruiting Thread

1 QB
1 A back

Is that 1 QB in addition to Dennis Andrews (like Matt Dobson) or including Dennis Andrews so that either he or any new QB will be recruited at some other position?

Are we looking specifically for a bigger A-Back or anywhere within spectrum of past recruits?

We will take another QB in addition to Andrews...like a Dobson, Moody, or Armstrong. However, if someone like Fuller, Justin Thomas, or Darion Monroe commit first the former three will not have an offer anymore. We would take one of those last three all the way to signing day as they are that good and could be stars at multiple positions.
We will probably just take one AB...and other than Zenon we have been focusing on bigger AB's like Orwin Smith, Deion Hill, etc. Shadrach Thornton fits that bill but could also grow into a BB down the road. If Thornton commits we will probably cut Tompkins loose.

We lost out on Brenden Motley, would have been a nice pick up. Dobson is most likely the other QB to commit.

I think Dobson's opportunity is over. With Andrews' commit we can focus more on premier talent at the Qb position, since we have a serviceable commit already at that position.

I would think we would take Moody to secure Tomlinson's commit, or it would have to be someone like Devin Fuller.

Hmmm, you think that we would take Thornton over Tompkins? No way we would possibly take both? I would really like to get the Brookwood connection out of Gwinnett county.

Moody isn't that interested in GT.

Yes...they would. They like both. The coaches are excited about Shadrach after his workouts this past weekends...he is perfect for us.
We only have about 7 openings right now for ships assuming Chris Jackson fulfills his duties to stay on team...so I seriously doubt they take 2 RB's in year where we do not need any.
In regards to brookwood/gwinnett...that would be nice....and that is why we offered Tompkins early and have given him a long time to commit w/o offering anyone else. He has had plenty of time and is not a Natl Signing Day commit level prospect.

Thanks for the input. While we did give the offer to Thornton following camp and he did seem excited about this of course he has not pulled the trigger yet, so let's see what happens.

I certainly would like for us to get one of these guys though unless there is another RB high on our list who is interested in GT.

just to clarify my post further in case it was not clear though....it is likely we just take the first one to commit to us and then stop at RB.

Yes, that is pretty much what I assumed. Does anyone have a thought about which guy may be more of a GT lean?

What do you (or anybody) see as the distribution of remaining 6-10 schollies?

(Beyond the 1QB, 1AB)

Dobson must know this--everything I've heard is that Tech staff communicates well with recruits. So, considering that he's not sitting on a lot of offers, you'd think he'd go ahead and commit, if he likes Tech. Is he holding-out for an FSU or Auburn offer?

I believe that Kelly Quinlan stated we will take 2 more QB's, 1 RB, 2 OL's, 1 DL (we already have Gamble and Kallon), and 2 DB's...which takes us to 15. Then we would save 2-3 spots for elite guys that will wait until closer to signing day like Jordan Jenkins, Devin Fuller, Justin Thomas, Darian Monroe, Jordan Watkins, Ishmael Adams, etc.

Any idea on our chances with that crew of elite guys? Specifically Jenkins and Watkins?

I haven't seen any talk about Brenden Motley on here. He is down to only 2 schools, VT and GT and may commit soon.

I heard motley commited to VPI recently how strong is it. Is that something where we'll stay "active?"

or even one we want to?
