The prospect of an awful 2011 season

I'm sorry, I just never have had this feeling before, but I honestly think either undefeated or 11-1. I can't explain it even to myself, I just don't see us losing any until the ACCCG. Unrealistic, maybe. I have had this feeling for a HS team before, and only once, and that was the year they won state. I'm going ahead and saying, we win them all except for the ACCCG, FSU plays for the NC and we play at the Orange Bowl vs. Oklahoma. We shock the news media, and beat them in a shootout. We end the season at #5 and that my friends, is my prediction.

I will have some of this please.

You're definitely not alone. You, I and a few others here have said they feel that way. Of course you've got a few members here who have never predicted any season higher than a 7-6 record with a loss in a bowl game played west of the Mississippi.

Obviously we all had pretty high expectations for the last two years. But this year we are coming off of a season where we realized that the bulk of the team simply wasn't great. And we lost a lot of the guys who were talented. Of course, all of that has been said a million times but the point is this..

If you had to bet the farm on whether this year would be:
A) Awful - a record below .500, a loss to UGAg, no bowl
B) A season better than that in any way

Of course, everyone will have their own idea of what constitutes a truly awful season. My main interest is in how many people are confident in the idea that we'll perform better than what I described above.

No, there's no poll coming. Hiyo, etc.

I think the prospect of a good season may be better than some think. Not sure what you think honestly. Just going by your "tone" which is negative. Not saying you don't have reason to be that way either.

The reason I think we'll have a better season this year:

We'll cut down on the turnovers. That's what killed the offense last year. Not our inability to pass the ball. Sure that didn't help, but it wasn't the killer turnovers where.

The defense in CAG second year will be better. Number one because the team will know the defense better, react quicker with more aggression. Second, I thought our week spot last year was LB. Think this is a better group of play makers. Like the the newbies and guys coming back vs those who have left the program. Just think this LB group will be better.

The card in the hole is special teams. That's the unknown where we've got to be better if we want to have a good year. Hope the card we turn up is a good one!

We'll see what we're made out of, but like the fact that no one is believing is us. We seem to have a lot of fire and fight when put in that situation.

For you ööööers predicting less than 14-0 and MNC, I hope your troll boat strikes an iceberg. :laugher:

I can virtually guarantee that this team will come out with a passion that we haven't seen in ages. I'm very excited for the upcoming season. 9-4.

And... we beat UGA.

I'm in. Why not?

I was here last year at this time, except I didn't think we'd lose the ACCCG.

This year, I think our D will be much improved, knowledge by DL, LB's and athletically by LB's and DB's.

I think our OL, AB's will be about the same, our WRs better, our QB and BB a little worse but not drastically. The Kicking game is a question mark, but Moore came out of HS with a decent reputation so I'm hopeful.

So, I think we have the O to score more points and the D to prevent more points. However, as far as feeling-it goes, I won't be confident that we've solved the intangibles until I see them play a couple of weeks.

AE I am so glad you have come down to my level.

Can't wait to piss you off during in-game chats this year!

GAME OVER! :hsdance:

Also I'm not sure about supposedly losing a lot of the guys who were talented. We've gone over many times how Nesbitt was not nearly as good as some make him out to be (esp passing) and he was instrumental in the loss to Kansas.

IMO and if I remember correctly, we had two retarded special teams plays that ultimately killed us. One being a roughing the kicker penalty on what would have been an 3-and-out for the defense. Orwin also had a bad fumble. There's two losses of possession right there.

If anything Joshua and Stephen kept us in the game with their 40 yard touchdown pass to get it to a 3 point game. Yes, that's right lady and gentlemen, touchdown pass.

So while I agree Nesbitt wasn't exactly a spectacular passer, a lot of incomplete passes last season were on the WRs. I especially loved the one where a pass bounced off of Kevin Cone's chest into the air for an interception. I forgot which game it was.

it was against SC State...see 7:45 mark

We'll dance about in the lower top 25 imo. I could see FSU getting close to the MNC, but even they are going to need a special season to pull that off. Way too many potential upsets on their schedule.

We'll start strong, lose a couple of close ones and eventually go 9-3 or 8-4. I don't see us in the ACCCG unless the Coastal is phenomenally mediocre. We're pretty likely to see a 1 or 2 loss team at the top, which will probably be Miami.

I never really am able to force myself to write out a "realistic" prediction that doesn't involve us going undefeated and winning the MNC until late August. And even then, I don't buy into my own prediction of any of our losses.

7-5 will be a respectable season for me this year given my low expectations. 8-4 would be great. 9-3: keep dreaming.

I think the offense is going to hurt but hopefully the D will get better.

Remember how bad our prospects were in 2008?

I don't know anything about feeling "entitled" last season. That just sounds like an excuse, and is in the past. But I truly believe that a team in many ways takes on the personality of its coach. Paul Johnson thrives on being the underdog. He lives to prove doubters wrong, and while this team might make a few mistakes and might get beaten physically a few times, I also expect it to be hungry. Like Wes Durham at Golden Corral type hungry.

I think we will have a winning season and beat either UGA or our bowl opponent on effort.
