I have been doing some juggling of names on our defensive line and I realized just how deep we have suddenly become. I can't wait to see how the Spring/Fall battles for #1 on the depth chart will play out. This is how I see things after moving Gerris-Wilkinson back to LB and Travis Parker out to DE. What do you all think?

Left End ......Tackle....... Tackle....... Right End

T. Parker(JR)--M. Wrotto(SO)-L.Newberry(FR)-E.Henderson(JR)
6-5, 275.......6-4, 310......6-0, 310.......6-3, 265

J. Anoai(SO)---D.Richard(FR)-B.Brezina(SO)-A.Oliver(SO)
6-3, 240.......6-4, 285......6-2, 275......6-4, 250

A.Smith(FR)----O.Billy(JR)---D.Brown(FR)---D.Robertson(FR)
6-6, 225 RS?...6-2, 270......6-3, 255 RS?..6-5, 205 RS?

..............E.Anyaibe(FR)
..............6-3, 275 RS?
Anyone notice how much heavier we have become? I used last years weights from the roster. I expect many to gain in weight and strength from last year, especially sophomores as this is a critical growth period for most (their first full year in a college weight training program). Regardless of who wins the starting jobs, I don't see us getting pushed around too much next year. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blue.gifWho do you think will get the red shirts?

DL/OL

...and I think that Anyaibe will be on the side of the ball that needs him most. That's just my opinion, but he's apparently a heck of a center, too.

I think I like Brezina. The kid seems to be willing to do what ever it takes (like Wilkerson).

I hope OL turns out to be a place he excells at. You figure if the kid was playing as much and as young as he was at DL - either he really has a future at OL or the guys that are taking his place at DL must be en fuego, or both. I'm hoping of both.

Richard, if he lives up to half his hype, will supplant someone; it's just a matter of who.

I think you can pencil in Richard for Newberry and that will be our starting OL.

correct....Brezina has moved to OG....another change is they have moved Anoai inside to DT when they moved Parker out to DE. Anyaibe will get his first shot as a DT.

Moving T. Parker to DE is gonna make this DL ridiculous. I will go ahead and tell y'all (those who attend practice will back me) T. Parker and Icky are the toughest of the tough, meanest of the mean, and easily the most exciting kids to watch. They are jumping up and down after every play. Now putting them opposite of each other will make things even worse for the offense. Anoai has the same attitude and will get the nod at DT this year. Wrotto will be fighting with the freshmen for the other slot. DL takes a different mind set than all other positions. This could shape up to be one of the best Tech DL's you have ever seen. I promise. These guys set the tempo every practice and every game. Im getting scared right now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/behead.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/behead.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/behead.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/behead.gif

As long as we are speculating.I would see Wrotto,Brezina, and Anyuibe all being OL candidates in next 2 yrs.
I would be surprised if Newberry was a factor on DL soon or ever.He is a very HEAVY guy who hurt his leg badly so his speed has got to be questioned.Based on Gathers, etc from La. I would think Richard will push soon as well as Anoai.
I am in a minority but I think it possible that Wilkerson may not work out at LB and move back to end.His lateral may not be that great for LB.
Is Robertson really only 205? He had better be some quick and strong to play soon at all.
time will tell.

Couple of thoughts. First are you a doctor? Until I see/read something to the contrary I will assume that Newberry will be back to full speed, perhaps not this year, but w/in the next 2. Second, the coaches have said all year that Wilkerson will be at LB. I would assume they know a little something about his lateral movement.

Robertson @ 205

I seem to remember reading something about Robo's weight, that being that he played football in the fall @ about 235, and quickly dropped 30 lbs for basketball. I don't know how accurate my memory is, but if that's true, that's impressive control over his playing weight, and would suggest that he'll be fine come next fall.

Re: Robertson @ 205

Robertson is like 6-4 or 6-5. Once basketball is over and he starts getting on a weight program, the lbs. wont be that hard to put on. He will still probably be a slim DE his first year but then I guarantee he blows up. Remember Hargrove.

NCJ,
AS I said .We'll see.My thoughts are based on what I know.I hope everything works out well for all the players but sometimes reality rears its its ugly head.
btw-were you in the group that automatically saw Grant as a FR last yr exploding 70 yds for TDS because he was highly recruited and was a RB.Ignoring the fact he had a bad leg and never learned to block in his life.Reality.

I noticed some of ou have left out EJ. As a sophmore he and Parker were the most impressive over all. Yes we have recruited top talent at the DL position, but these guys are fresh off the boat. It isn't guranteed how these new guys will perform in spring practice. I'm sure the odds of sucess are in their favor, but give praise to those who earn it. If they perform well enough to earn those spots then I agree. I do however agree that moving TP to DE is a wise move. He is quick and will be better suited at DE than DT. Let me know what you guys think.

AlaGold, I know nothing is certain about any player returning from a serious injury. I just don't automatically count them out as you seem to. It seems to me that more make it back than don't. And no, I wasn't in the camp that Grant would be a star last year. I'm more the type to assume that ALL freshmen take some time to get up to speed no matter what position they play or how highly ranked they were. If anything, I'm more one to discount the recruiting rankings until you can see the kid on the field with other college players.

On GB-W, my point is more along the lines of the coaches have been saying for some time he will likely be at OLB. They've seen him every day for 2 years, so I would be surprised if they don't have a pretty good idea of what he's capable of. That's reality too.

I think that TP will be awesome at DE. I saw him get held over and over last year. Out on the end, these blatant holds will be more visible.

That's what I'm thinking. This young man is a stud. He will only bee more effective at DE. Parker at one end, Icky at the other? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pat.gif

Imho, Parker/Henderson makes the "dancin elephant" the 3rd best DE in the state.

IMO, the arrival of several big, young DL prospects will create a more competitive situation where everyone involved will have to work harder for PT.

That should raise the overall level of play of all parties, except those who give up and just hang on.

Hopefully, we won't have to rely on true frosh to start just because they are big. Strength and savvy make a big difference on the DL.

IMO, until GT develops an outstanding and aggressive defensive front, with depth, good running teams will be able to consistently beat us, no matter how good our LB's and DB's are.

Hopefully, CCG is in the process of getting this longstanding problem at GT turned around. If we have at least 1 DT who can consistently require double teaming and a top notch pass rushing DE, we'll be crippled by QB's with time to pass us silly.

Hopefully, CCG understands we also need to develop depth of talent on the front 4. One or two aren't enough, especially when young players are involved because of their susceptability to injury.
