Most games have not even been close. This includes last year's 31-7 thrashing by Clemson.

It is actually 2-7, not 0-5, but still quite bad.

That may be the case, but considering how banged up we are on offense right now I'll take my chances on the bye week.

Maybe CCG can show us that he deserves to stay with breaking the trend by having the players prepared and motivated for VPI.

Also, by my count we're 2-3 after a bye:
2006:
10/7: W vs UMD
10/14: bye
10/21: L @CU (7-31)

2005:
10/15: W @Duke
10/22: bye
10/29: W vs Clemson (10-9)

2004:
10/16: W vs Duke
10/23: Bye
10/28: L vs Virginia Tech (20-34; this brings back some painful memories - we had this game well into the 4th)

2003:
10/11: W @Wake
10/18: bye
10/23: W @UMD (7-3)

2002:
10/5: L vs Wake
10/12: bye
10/19: L @UMD (10-34)

2-3 isn't great or anything, but still.

Where did you see that we were 0-5?

2006 - L @ Clemson
2005 - L vs NC State
2004 - L vs VT
2003 - L @ Duke
2002 - L @ Maryland

I guess we had multiple byes some years.

I guess we have posters who like to sculpt the facts to make a point. There's a place for you in the Hillary administration young man.

I haven't kept up with our result after bye week stats, but I have with CG's November nightmares.
In that the bye throws the VPI game into Nov,....

That looks like Chan Gailey's greatest hits right there. You've got:

- both 51-7s
- the beatdown Dook administered on us
- one of the two asskickings Clemson put on us
- Miami and Maryland demolishing us
- The fourth quarter collapse against VT
- The disaster of a game that was the 14-17 loss to NCSU
- Two of the worst offensive football games in the history of the game: 7-3 and 10-9

Ahh, memories...

That looks like Chan Gailey's greatest hits right there.

It does contain all of the 'that shouldn't have happened should it?' losses to Tobacco Road over the last five years: Wake in '02, Duke in '03, UNC in '04 and NCSt in '05 --I include Wake in '06 as well.

Actually, only two of the four occured after a bye week --with the other two happening prior to.

There's no avoiding that we suck after bye weeks, but of all the ones listed, the worst bye week loss I can ever recall was O'Leary losing to Clemson by giving up 40 points in the 2nd half to the Woody Dantzler Draw Play, over, and over, and over, and over.

I still have nightmares of him running the QB draw in for the final TD, and of everyone in my section yelling 'watch the QB draw' right before he did it.

Wow - are you resorting to crying over victories?

That was gawd awful --and came after a 21-day layoff due to 9/11 and the postponement of all games that weekend.

Not only that, the 9/11 layoff canceled our scheduled game vs FSU, who was top ten ranked, and who lost their next game to UNC. UNC and Al-Queida stole our FSU win, stuck us with a 3 week delay, and caused us to lose to Clemson, which was the pivotal loss of that year.

I blame Chan Gailey.

You're right. Gailey's got enough ridiculously embarrassing losses to fill up that wonderful resume of his that I really didn't need to add those games.

I wonder if we're in store for another asswhupping this year?

GT Kyle, can you edit the topic...

to get it correct?

I think it is 2-7 as shown below. I guess you can throw in bowls if you want as those are somewhat similar to bye weeks. He is 2-3 in bowls I think though I can't name them right now so maybe I'm remembering wrong.

I remember being in Seattle in 01 and Orlando in 04 but nothing else seems familiar. One pet peeve of mine (as an O'l detractor) is how he gets credit for going 8-5 in 01. He was 7-5 and McWhirter was 1-0. If not for the game in Seattle, that team does not finish in the top 25 not that they deserved to anyway. O'l went 7-5 with a consensus top 10 preseason team in a fairly weak ACC and somehow that season is remembered as a good one by many.

The 2001 season was THE most disappointing season even more so than this one. We were ranked like what #13 preseason?

Me too, beej, me too. I will never forget sitting in the north stands that day and watching Woody steal the game away on that last drive.
