I don't have the exact numbers, but I think a half-share of the Big 10 would be significantly more than ACC. Plus, it would give our athletics stability. I don't see much mention of Tech in speculation about Big 10 expansion, either. But, I think Tech has some advantages over other expansion candidates from ACC. I don't know if we'll ever get the chance to join the Big 10. But, if we do, I think we should do it.

Well of course we're fully committed to the ACC. Just like every NFL owner is fully committed to their HC this week. Until they lose over the weekend and get fired next weekend.

He should have said "fully committed to the ACC right now". With "right now" being the operative word because we don't have an offer from another conference as of yet. You don't burn bridges until you're across them.

That's because half of the expansion chatter is driven by BigXII fans hopeful that they'll pick up a few more interesting programs, and those fans have a very narrow view on what constitutes a valuable expansion candidate. ie, "FSU and Clemson are big football brands, they will obviously go to the SEC". This is also why I believe Duke has all of a sudden become the trendy expansion team to talk about, BigXII fans see a high end basketball program that technically won the ACC last year.

The Minnesota guy that runs a show called Peak Around the Corner literally just had a show yesterday where he talked about where the University of Minnesota stands, based on his sources, on different expansion candidates. And guess what, he said their top 2 candidates are Miami and Georgia Tech, assuming UNC and UVA are off the table and likely to go to the SEC. That said, he said both conferences are waiting for UNC to make a decision before the rest of the dominoes fall.

The other reason why GT hasn't been a huge part of expansion speculation, I think, is because we've been out of the national picture for so long and just now starting to recapture a status worthy of our historical pedigree. The Tech admin opted to go to the Triple Option rather than step up and support football properly. PJ never got the full financial support he needed to make Tech an annual contender. Those last few years under PJ we were so outmatched by Clemson and ugag that we looked like we were playing at different divisions. Followed by 3 years of Goof and fan support was on life support and we looked like a program on par with Wake and BC.

Key (and Alpert and Angel) is getting back to where Tech left off in the late 90s, really going beyond it with the admin support I imagine, but it's going to take a few years to spin national fan perception. The longer this stuff drags on before expansion goes down the better for Tech probably. The ratings shooting up over the last 3 years bear this out.

In a nutshell, he hasn’t talked much about GT until today because frankly there wasn’t anything being reported out of the GT side. Given how tight-lipped our school has operated since Angel became president, it would make sense. His “sources” on the GT info is coming from B1G sources who have allegedly been asked to do a temperature check on schools interest on adding GT, that GT is now “active”, whereas previously the school admin said they wanted to stay associated with UNC and UVA.

GT and Miami make the most sense for the BIG10 if you look at metro areas. 6 million+ in Metro Atlanta, 6 million + in Metro Miami.

Atlanta has a huge advantage, for GT games, in that you could, if you wanted, fly in, Marta to North Avenue, short walk across the North Avenue bridge to the stadium, watch game, walk back to Marta, go to airport, go home. It'd be a long day, but I have taken some day road trips that made for a pretty long day. Clemson, Auburn, UGA night game, Vandy.

Miami does have the stadium disadvantage.

Raleigh/Durham is fast growing, but has a long way to catch Atlanta, if UNC or NC State is being looked at. UNC has lived off Michael Jordan for 40 years now, I don't get the appeal of their mediocrity. I guess folks could be getting confused and thinking they would be getting Charlotte metro, 2.5 hours away from Raleigh.

Notre Dame could choose at any time, but guaranteed they'd want a sweetheart deal for any league.

Well, yea, that. If you rent at the GT hotel, you have an ideal stay for the ballgame. Plenty of restaurants. Come for several days and go to the college football HOF, aquarium, world of Coca Cola, maybe see a Hawks game or even a Falcons game, see a concert at the Tabernacle or maybe go to the Fox or Woodruff Arts/High Museum.

Atlanta is ideal.

Depends on whether you are talking about walking back after a Noon game or walking back after a night game. There aren't that many hotels in the latter case.
