#19 - Ja'Quon Griffin (DT)

This is the type of guy Woody wanted. High motor, ability to beat blocks and make plays in the backfield, even if undersized

Good pickup! I'm all about the love that Floyd County is getting in this class.

This class is shaping up very nicely. Welcome to The Flats, Mr. Griffin.

I think that’s the type of guy every coach wants.

I don't even know anything about this kid and I'm excited!

3 star; 6-0, 265 lbs. Was part of a ferocious front four for back to back 5A state champs Rome. Was once committed to LSU along with 2 of his teammates as a package deal, but none of the 3 ended up there (one went to uga and the other will likely sign with Miami). JaQuon ended up choosing us over Tulane. Probably underrated because he's a couple inches short for his position. I think excitement is warranted; really good get, especially for this late in the recruiting period, IMO.

I get the undersized argument, but his film looks nasty. He EXPLODES off the ball, then tosses the OL around like a ragdoll. He is often in the backfield before the play even starts. He is 3" and 30 lbs away from being a 4-5 star most likely. Rome was the best team in the state this year, btw.

Indeed. Very impressive timing and speed at the snap. I'm guessing he plays DE for us, since he's already undersized even for a 4-3 DT. But another 40 pounds on him if he maintains that strength and speed will be formidable as a DE.

Rome was easily the best team in the state this past season.

This is the Clinton lynch signing of the dl. The other guys on the line got the attention and he just quietly made plays and kept opponents from being able to gameplan away the higher rated recruits.

He is listed at 265lbs, I don't know if you want to put another 40lbs on him at 6-0 ft. Maybe 10 lbs and use him like a big LB/smallish DE. If he has quickness and a motor that will be more valuable to him than 30-40 extra pounds.
