It's the 50th(+1) Reunion of the 9-3 Jackets.

COVID delayed us a year, and we've lost a few more teammates to other causes, but we'll be there. Yes, Renso (AKA Rock) did a little arm twisting, but it's probably the last time we'll get together like this.

BTW, there were only nine (9) FBS level bowls in that era.

See ya'll Saturday.

Seems like there’s 9 bowls in just Florida now.

My wife and I got married in September of 1970. I remember that team very well. We saw them beat South Carolina in Atlanta the week before we got married and then saw them beat Georgia in Athens, if I recall correctly. I often look at the highlights of Tech's 1970 season on YouTube. Thanks for all you did and do for Tech.

actually 8 by my count

I tossed/discounted the Tangerine & Pasadena Bowls as counting. The Tangerine had not yet morphed into the Citrus & the participants were considered "Small College" in that era.

The Pasadena Bowl (nee "Junior Rose Bowl") was not a "Major College" bowl - Louisville barely made the listings of scores in the Sunday morning papers outside of Kentucky back then. Long Beach State was more known for MBB and baseball & dropped football.

11 Bowl Games

How does Memphis fit with the rest of those?

Rock Perdoni big time defensive player on that team if I recall.

Don't know what you mean about Memphis or El Paso for that matter. Tulane was always a tough game for us - we lost in NOLA 7-14 in '69 - and Colorado was a Big Eight also-ran (always 3rd fiddle to Oklahoma & a couple of all-time/all-time Nebraska teams), so the Liberty Bowl counts.

Don't bad mouth the Liberty Bowl to any members of our 1972 Liberty Bowl Champ team.

I don’t understand that question either. The Liberty Bowl brought some good teams.

Was just thinking about this -The first GT game I attended was in 1966 vs Tulane, my dad took me when I was 16 months old so obviously I have no memory of the game. But the first game that I do remember my dad taking me to was 1970 vs Navy. I recall where I sat, south side 30 yard line, west stands, and I recall the scoreboard at the end of the game.

Peach Bowl was in it’s infancy. Had it moved to Atlanta Stadium by then?

I could be wrong, but I think this was at Grant Field. I was working for the Braves by the next year and worked the Peach Bowl at Atlanta Stadium when we played Ole Miss. I believe that was the first away from a Grant Field.

I remember those bowls well. The Sun Bowl win was terrific for the Jackets. The Pat Sullivan/Archie Manning shootout in the Gator Bowl was one of the best games I’ve seen.

Tulane suffered even more than we did from leaving the SEC.
