I was flipping thru channels tonight and saw Hawaii vs Illinois on espn classic. There was a shot of CPJ as Oc with Ken N in the booth with him. Ivan Jasper was playing A back.

Interesting to see the offense in its beginning stages. The qb was very athletic and could throw some. Many high schools were running veer and Wing T back then and I think it was much easier to find a qb to run the offense.

The run game of the modern spread offense is boring and is ruining high school and college football. It is sad to see this offense probably gone from GT forever.

Side note, announcers said Johnson's daughter was about to be born. Time flys by.

This. I'm on board for any offense that scores a bunch of touchdowns, but few score as many as the SO and nobody does it with as much style. Going to miss converting a 3 and 13 after some dickface announcer says "hurr durr this offense isnt built for bleh and long" then grinding down a defense into dust as we impose our will for an entire quarter. Goodbye death march.

I was at every one of Hawaii's home games that year. Their offense was unstoppable.

They played Illinois in a bowl game that year and everyone thought IL was going to wax them with their Big X defense.

Hawaii destroyed Illinois.

Been waiting for that offense for 11 years. Never saw it.

I really think Navy and Georgia Southern changed him. He never had a passing offense like that again. I think the lack of available good passing QB’s at Navy pretty much solidified him into 100% run first. It’s sad that he never let it loose here.
