We can be a good defense, but we need to do the small things correct, first, like get the play in from the sideline and get lined up. I have yet to see us look outmanned or dominated. We just do other silly stuff that causes breakdowns and lead to scores

I was there unlike most Tech fans
I was there too. Clemson on offense, IMO, does not have that special "go to" player like when Spiller was there. They are a beatable team.

Defensively, they are very, very good. We held our own for a bit. We could have really used a 100% healthy Kenny Cooper at center. I know his foot has healed, but he is apparently still getting back into things.

I think Clemson is beatable with KB at QB, not so sure about with TL. That offense vertical game goes to entire different level with Lawrence and he’s mobile as well. It’s like going from Stoudt to Watson. Etienne is the go-to guy, he just has to remain engaged in the game

Agree with this. Their issue is that the best offensive players are all freshmen and sophomores, so they make some huge plays every now and then but are not consistent or reliable. Having Lawrence does greatly increase the likelihood of hitting on some big vertical plays, but he's still a true freshman and will undoubtedly make some big mistakes. I'm a Clemson fan, but I fully believe Clemson will blow it at least once even though Duke is the highest ranked team left on their schedule.

TL isn't going to be a runner. Can Clemson win just with a QB in the pocket? Like I said, I didn't see a player equal to Spiller or Ford out there. Plus, this isn't the NFL which is two hand touch on the QB

Being mobile and runner is different and i believe Lawrence is mobile enough to pick up those 10-15yds like Watson did. TL is 4.7 40 guy. They don’t need a Spiller per se but Higgins, Ross and Etinne is more than enough to get to the title game

I don’t see anyone other than BC being within 14pts of Clemson

Thanks so much for this breakdown. We get so focused on offense on this (and other) boards, so the deepest we normally get on defensive discussions is just how much we suck and don't understand why.

We are definitely not prepared to handle tempo right now, but that's understandable given the fact that we have a brand new system with tons of new players. Going forward, we need to see players getting lined up quicker and everybody clear on the signals, because for the first half of the game we played pretty well other than that.

Interesting - not once on any play did I see Clemson OL doing our dive-blocking technique. Often, you see Clemson OL releasing downfield after taking our DL out and getting into the 2nd level, rather than being prone on the ground.
The results speak for themselves.

thanks for taking the time to post this, @ibeeballin

I didn't see Alcorn State doing any cut blocking either. Do those results also speak for themselves?

It's pretty obvious why our OL was unsuccessful against Clemson and theirs was successful against us.

The absolute worst GT team in 20+ years got thoroughly decimated by Clem's Son. My post needed no fixing keyboard cowboy.
Oh, my apologies. You’re right to criticize his film breakdown.

Where’s the film you analyzed? I will wait for the link.

Not criticizing his film. I’m criticizing his comment: “I have yet to see us outmanned or dominated.” If the OP is having problems with recognizing those two issues I have doubts if he/she actually saw the game I did.

I’m pretty sure your insurance cover eye exams. Might want to schedule an appointment.

Nobody has lined up pushed us off the line for.

USF: couldn’t maintain rush lanes leading to QB scrambles

Pitt: missed tackles and lack of gap integrity

Clemson: blown assignments

Nobody has done what UGA did to us last year or BYU a few yrs back.

1st half "breakdown" is correct. We also "broke down" in the second half.
