Opposing team’s, except Jacksonville, last possession in each half except where noted.
UT 1:05 2nd Qtr. Took 0:58 to go 23 yards on 6 plays and turnover on downs.
UT 4:50 4th Qtr. Took 3:21 to go 7 plays to go 93 yards and score a touchdown.
From a drive chart perspective, the issue against UT was three missed scoring opportunities in the form of two missed field goals and a fumble on the UT 7 yard line.
UNC 1:08 2nd Qtr. Took 1:08 to go 40 yards on 12 plays and miss a long field goal.
UNC 1:39 4th Qtr. In garbage time, took 1:39 to go 32 yards on 6 plays.
A great game defensively. UNC went scoreless on it first 10 consecutive possessions which included 2 missed field goal attempts and a pair of interceptions. Poor offensive performance for GT in the first half and a good performance in the second half.
Pitt 0:47 2nd Qtr. Took 0:47 to go 38 yards on 6 plays and kick a field goal.
Pitt 2:24 4th Qtr. In garbage time, took 2:24 to go 35 yards on 8 plays and ran out of time.
A good game defensively looking at the drive chart. Five three-and-outs, 7 punts, a turnover on downs, and a fumble recovery.
UM 1:59 2nd Qtr. Took 1:47 to go 77 yards on 9 plays and score a touchdown.
UM 2:30 4th Qtr. Took 2:30 to go 85 yards on 15 plays and kick a field goal.
The GT offense had five possessions in the 2nd half and scored one field goal, which wasted a good defensive effort. Miami scored just two touchdowns in the game and spent the rest of the game alternating between punts and field goals. Considering that every Miami field goal came from within the red zone, that is pretty good.
VT 2nd Qtr 1:07. Took 1:07 to go 4 yards on 4 plays and run out of time.
VT 4th Qtr 6:21. Took 5:18 to go 42 yards on 12 plays and turnover on downs.
Not a great game offensively. 12 possessions resulted in 4 touchdowns and a missed field goal. On the flip, it was a good game defensively with defense surrendering three TD and a field goal on 11 possessions. Also, successfully defended two 2-pt conversion attempts.
WF 4:35 2nd Qtr. Took 3:33 to go 64 yards on 9 plays and score a touchdown.
WF 1:50 4th Qtr. Took 0:47 to go 52 yards on 6 plays and throw interception.
Jekyll Hyde in this game for the defense. In the first half WF scored three touchdowns on four possessions. Ugly. In the second half WF scored one field goal on seven possessions. GT defense successfully defended three consecutive 4th down conversion attempts in the second half.
CU (2nd to last possession in the half) 2:52 2nd Qtr. Took 0:36 to go 4 yards on 3 plays and punt.
CU (last possession in the half) 0:58 2nd Qtr. Took 0:58 to go 9 yards on 3 plays and run out the clock.
CU 4:38 4th Qtr. Took 4:38 to go 29 yards on 10 plays and run out the clock.
Offensive disaster. On the first 12 possessions, scored one field goal and had eight three-and-outs. Scored a TD on the last possession (Lucky #13!). Defensively, it wasn’t too bad from a drive chat perspective. Held CU to a FG in the 2nd half on 6 possessions after allowing three TD’s on eight possessions in the first half.
UVA 1:01 2nd Qtr. Took 1:01 to go 9 yards on 3 plays and punt.
UVA (2nd to last possession of game) 3:10 4th Qtr. Took 1:48 to go 64 yards on 5 plays and score touchdown.
UVA (last possession in the half) Run out clock with 0:15 remaining.
A ton of possessions in this game. Excluding the kneel down at the end, UVA had 18 possessions. From a drive chart, the first half was excellent. UVA scored a pair of field goals despite having 8 possessions and starting their first possession on the GT 34 yard line. Their TD was a KO return. GT kept pace offensively on a points per drive basis, but given the number of possessions in the game, that was a bit of a tallest midget contest.
Duke 2:03 2nd Qtr. Took 1:37 to go 72 yards on 11 plays and score touchdown.
Duke 6:23 4th Qtr. Took 6:23 to go 43 yards on 11 plays and run out out the clock.
GT scored on 3 of 4 first half possessions and did absolutely nothing offensively in the second half. The defense never showed up. Duke scored on 7 consecutive possessions (4 TD, 3 FG) and on 8 of 10 possessions overall and could have scored again except they chose to run out the clock with their own version of a death march at the end of the game.
uga 0:42 2nd Qtr. Took 0:42 to go 50 yards on 6 plays and kick a field goal.
uga 7:28 4th Qtr. Took 7:21 to go 60 yards on 11 plays and turnover on downs.
Essentially, the 2nd half of the Duke game played twice. Nothing happening offensively except for one TD. GT defense surrendered 5 TD and a FG on 9 possessions and could have surrendered more except uga opted to burn clock on the last drive.
Totaling it up (your math may vary):
10 games.
End of 1st half: 3 TD, 2 FG, 1 missed field goal, and 4 punts/clock/turnover on downs.
End of game: 2 TD, 1 FG, 5 garbage time (2 in wins, 3 in losses), 1 interception, and 1 turnover on downs.
When it counted, the defense surrendered points about half the time.
Points are points, regardless of when they are scored. However, looking at the TOP, yards, and plays, it is clear that something is wrong with the 2-minute and 1-minute defense. UT, UM (twice), WF, UVA, Duke, and uga each went down a significant portion of the field to score and about half the time did so very quickly. Even Wake was blitzing the field (52 yd in 47 seconds) until the interception. VT and Pitt were the only teams to not score on one of their last possessions of a half.
