Noodle-armed George Godsey had a 65% completion rate and passed for 3000+ yards and 18 TDs for a somewhat disappointing season. He did this with a 32 year old first year offensive coordinator.

We were ahead of our time with a wide open variable offense that could spread you out and beat you on the ground and through the air.

Since then through three coaching staffs we have watched 20 years of wounded ducks, overthrown missiles, underthrown bounce passes, jump balls into double and triple teams, and general hopelessness throwing the ball. Sims 1Q was that 20 years in a nutshell.

will we ever see a QB in white and gold that can scan the field and pick apart a defense again?

idk. I kept thinking last night that their qb had a much better arm than any of our guys. Which starts making me think why the hell can’t tech get a quarterback when the temples and NIUs of the world can

i think Vad Lee could’ve been that but some agent or cling on uncle/coach was in his ear too much.

Justin Thomas threw for the same number of career TDs and had the same career passing rating as George Godsey and did it with 230 fewer career passing attempts.
Wow. Thanks for that. Thomas is and will be tech legend though

To be fair Godsey is too

I was thinking this myself but never went to back it up. That being said he wasn’t a super crisp passer, but it’s hard to argue that he was ineffective. One of my faves.

Thomas was awesome, but the op is talking about a QB who can do it consistently. Thomas was perfect for that offense and had single coverage every snap due to the triple. Godsey had the ability on 3rd and 12 to pick them apart. Watching Perry’s tape and spring game he has a live arm and is trained in this system. He had high level high school coaching and I believe is our best bet. With the RB’s and WR’s we have we don’t need a super man at QB. We need a distributor and a guy who can move the chains. Yates has guts and talent but he wont stay healthy playing the way he plays unfortunately. If we gave Sims an entire year then let’s give a young true passer some games to see. I remember that Godsey shocked the heck out of me. Nothing flashy or even textbook but he got the ball where it needed to be and the WR’s made the catches.

And also chose to play for a confident witty proven coach that knew what he was doing! Hell, didnt even need a playbook to make him thrive......

Great post !! Sad that most people on here don’t even know the name Godsey .. it’s crazy that back then if we went 8-4 it was somewhat disappointing & now we can’t win 8 games in 2 years combined

Not Godsey (and obviously the GOAT) but this is the kind of thing we could do once upon a time:

Dropping dimes all over the field.

Dropping dimes all over the field.

the best QB is the schools’ history is a lot to live up to.

Also had superior play calling then as well. Not so much now

And of course, some really good WRs
