Sept. 2, NOTRE DAME (L)?
This will be one of those ganes that COULD go either way. C. Weiss can coach IMO. I really think we play them close, but lose in the end because of our QB.

Sept. 9, SAMFORD (W)
This game should NOT even be on our schedule.

Sept. 16, TROY (W)
This is a you better watch your ass game. I remember last year when they beat Missouri. Another game that should not even be on our schedule.

Sept. 21, VIRGINIA (Thursday, ESPN) (W)?
Sure would be nice to get back on the W side against these guys. Hopefully we have changed qb's by now and we are seeing Bennett or Garner.

Sept. 30, at Virginia Tech (L)
There dang defense will be FASTER than it was last year. We could pull an upset if they are flat.

Oct. 7, MARYLAND (W)
FAT Ralph comes back to Grant Field. Hope we hand his ass to him as he leaves town.

Oct. 21, at Clemson (L)?
This can go either way as we all know by now. Baby Bowden has stockpiled recruits for 3 or 4 years now. They will be much more athletic than we are as is akways the case it seems. THROW CJ the damn ball! He'll mkae a winner of us all.

Oct. 28, MIAMI (L)?
Could we have their number? Was last year a fluke? Lead the charge Coach T!!!!!!!

Nov. 4, at NC State (W)
We find a way to win with out freshman QB(I Hope)

Nov. 11, at North Carolina (W)?
We NEVER play well in Chapel Hill it seems. Maybe lady luck will shine upon the Gold and White.

Nov. 18, DUKE (W)
NO repeat performances from 2 years ago.

Nov. 25, at Georgia (W)
TO HELL WITH GEORGIA! We owe them several ass whoopins!!

My prediction

8-4 with 5, count them 5, questionable picks. I just can not see any better than that. Realistically we go 6-6 and hopefully turn down a puke bowl invite.

IMO if we hire a proven OC, I think we can go 8-4 maybe even 9-3, but my fear is no OC is on the way.

Anything less than 8 wins and a new coach is in order. I beeleive we should have made the change this year, but we did not pull the trigger.

One thing is for sure I am ready for 2006 to begin and see how our SA's perform. Hopefully I can look back on this and we have finished with a 8-4 year, play in a decent bowl game and look forward to 2007.

GO JACKETS!!!!!!!!!

4 games we really need to win to reach that 8 win mark:

1) Virginia
2) Maryland
3) @ North Carolina State
4) @ North Carolina

WIn those 4 and Troy, Samford, and Duke give you 7 wins, with a great chance at going 2-3 in the other 5 for a 9 win season. 1-4 to get to 8 wins. And the bowls ought to line up this year, where on field achievement garners an invite instead of campus location (i.e. Meineke Bowl). But you're right MOF2 on us not playing well in Chapel Hill. Hope we don't get caught lookin ahead to Duke in that one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blue.gif
Seriously though, UNC will bite you if you don't come to play. ALmost got us this past year when we got pass happy in the 4th quarter.

You know...I cannot say we should not schedule Samford for many reasons.

1) The bowls reward you for playing crappy schedules and racking up wins (i.e. NCState, Virginia, et.c)
2) We could use a game early where a back-up QB (and others) spots can play the depth
3) You can play true freshmen in this game and still not lose their redshirt since it is game #2.
4) We already have one of the toughest ten schedules in the country with 7 bowl teams from last year including NotreDame (top 3), Miami, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Clemson (top 20), and Virginia.

Wait untill 2007 -

when we play Va Tech, Miami, AND FSU. AND open up at ND.

Now that's gonna be brutal.

There is nothing wrong with scheduling Samford. I've gone on record that we should play a schedule like UGA anyway and then win 8 games every year. With all of the things shackeling our program, we don't need to add extra special difficulty to our schedule. It's too hard already.

The odds of us beating UVA, UNC, NCS and Maryland next year is slim to none. I see 7-5 with our current quarterback and who knows otherwise.

We don't play FSU until 2008

I've started to feel the same way now that we've gone to a 12 game schedule. There is no reason to schedule Notre Dames and Alabamas when we've already got UGA, Miami, VaTech, Clemson, Maryland every year.

Yet Tech seems to always have big ooc games. 2 of the reasons are 1) a hangover from our days as an independent when the schedule was filled with old sec foes, and a few big time national teams, and 2) the fact that most of the acc opponents just don't get the blood going. The only real rivalry game in conference is clemmons.
IMO, the rest feel impersonal, like games on an NFL schedule.

Yes, I agree. The ACC is making a huge mistake by not dividing the schedule into two geographical halves. It should be Miami, FSU, Tech, Clemson, Duke/UNC or Wake/NCS in the south, the rest in the north.

Yes, it would cost us some money early on regarding the championship game. But it would definitely help build excitment in the conference. Until the excitement grows to fever pitch, we will never maximize our games.

Tech fans could care less about playing Virginia and VPI every year (see attendance at both games in Atlanta). We have a long term thing with Duke so take Duke and UNC. But we should be playing FSU every year, that was our favorite game annually (more so than UGA for me).

As I said before, drop UGA annually or move them to the first game and play FSU every year.

Drop UGA annually????

You've got to be joking. Why on earth would we want to do that?? Drop our BIGGEST rival from our annual schedule??

I'm speechless.

Re: Drop UGA annually????

Hunter, don't do this! Mid is staunch on this, and has presented a viable argument. The skirmishes and major battles over this subject are actually now being used as case studies at West Point.

I happen to disagree with him strongly, but that is besides the point.
Use your "search" feature on this. It's like a mini series on the History Channel. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugher.gif

what??!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pat.gif

Are you questioning whether or not this can be done? You abosolutely can and it is done all the time.

You cannot play the entire freakin' class. However, you can take a sneak peek and see who is ready for several borderline players and then have an "injury" for a medical redshirt.

This is done almost every year.

Re: Drop UGA annually????

LOL, Too Funny.

Hunter, just to summarize, I believe we play too tough a schedule. But knowing the fan base wants fun interesting games, then find a way for both.

One method would be to play UGA less often and fill that slot with Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee. We will never win another championship the way we're doing it now.

But more importantly, if we moved the UGA game to the first game then I believe we'd win more often and have a more enjoyable game anyway. The redneck hatred that occurs now is built out of the hurting it does for a season ending loss.

Most importantly, we need to focus on the ACC and I think it'd be fun to finish with Duke-UNC, UVA-VPI, and GT-UM. But much more critical than that, we are losing to UGA 7 out of 10 years. Knowing how that affects us all, we end on a real downer 7 out of 10 years. That negatively affects our bowl games. Bowls basically take as fact to not take us after we lose to UGA. So I'm just suggesting changing the game a little so it works to our favor more.

But alas, everyone else wants to play a stupid difficult schedule, while maintaining MIT standards, and then bitches about our bowl games after the UGA loss. I prefer to beat the system by changing it.

You didnt say Medical Redshirt reshirt previously - which is the reason for my response. Additionaly, your "sneak peek" theory as you stated is very silly and I really dont think a coach looks at it that way (at least I hope not!!) I'm hoping you have more sense than how this post reads. You play a true freshman because he is good enough to amke an impact and/or you are desperate to develop depth...not to get a "sneak peak" then hope he gets hurt for a medical if he flops...I guess its your "sneak peek" that bugs me - therefore my rebutal. Ohh, and as far as playing the "whole freakin class" as you say - you hope not to play any of your freshmen but to redshirt them all - that would ideal, however thats usually never an option due to the above reasons.

wow...that was kind of a condescending post.

This practice was used by O'Leary on a regular basis at GT so we should be used to it. It has happened under Gailey as well.

This is common practice. Heck, I can remember Coach O'Leary at alumni gatherings when asked why we have not seen a certain player since game 2 or 3 stating that he has "an injury" and he would give the quote signs with his hands and a silly grin.

btw...where did O'Leary learn it...from none other than Coach Ross.

Dropping UGA annually

and playing TN, Auburn, or AL during the years we don't play ugag wouldn't exactly make our schedule easier.

Playing them earlier in the season?? I can live with that.

Not playing them every year just because we haven't been able to beat them at least every other season is a cop-out, IMO.

We'll agree to disagree - but I can guarantee you one thing - no AD will EVER try to drop them from our schedule. Ever.

Re: Dropping UGA annually

I agree Hunter...and do you really think uga would actually go for that anyway??!!! why would they!!

If we played you in the beginning of the season I

would agree. But since we will have 11 prior games to develop some players in key areas I think UGA has a very good chance to win versus GT in Athens.

Too much talent in the UGA program will have the whole season to develop.

Would I be surprised if GT wins? Heck no. I'm just glad we play you guys late in the year.
