2006 Schedule....Just my opinion

Re: If we played you in the beginning of the seaso

The mutts do have an advantage with us playing later in the year, and they will have that almost every year... depth. 10/11 games take their toll on a team and as we have trouble getting the high number of players, not to mention lately having problems of getting the 2nd string much playing time since we never really blow out a team, they will have that advantage?

Would I want to see that changed? I'm a stickler for tradition, so no, I love the cold and often rainey late November Saturdays, theres just something in the air. I feel like the season culminates in that game, bowls/acccg/etc are just postseason nonsense (especially the championship game), so there is every reason to end the season with it.

As for adding Tenn/Au/Bama rotation, that is just indicative of the lack of passion we have for ACC games, but thats another topic.

Re: Dropping UGA annually

I believe UGA asked for it at one time. We turned them down. Or was it just dropping the game completely?

I used to enjoy the Auburn game just as much as UGA. I was very hurt when we dropped Auburn. Our rivalry with them was longer than with UGA's and I believe it was the longest in the south. The decision was a poor one and was made by some fool named Clough or something(oh different guy but you get the drift). Anyway, why not play Auburn one year, UGA the next.

At no time in Tech's history has the world changed as much as VERY recently under Clough. We are headed to non-football status shortly if we don't recognize certain things. I'd rather consider changes instead of becoming Vanderbilt.

Our biggest game, UGA, is played at a complete disadvantage to us. Think about it. Calculus finals coming up, versus Basketball 101. Depth versus no-depth (with our new constraints we will never ever have depth).

There are plenty of big time rivals that play at the beginning of the year: FSU-Miami for example. There is much more need for an early big time game and ours would start to garner real attention again.

And I think we'd win more often. But most importantly, is that we wouldn't finish our season "as a failure" 7 out of 10 times.

The cards are stacked against us. Nowhere in the country does the politicians and media do everything they can to piss on the elite state school. The rest of the country calls it the "Princeton Offense", or "Ty won 7 games at Stanford!". That doesn't happen here, so we have to beat them at their own game.

Not every great coach or manager, gets the best players and/or beats them straight up when you are so disadvantaged. But the smart coaches/managers work the system to their advantage and build excitment through victories.

Does anyone here realize how Dodd became Dodd and Dooley became Dooley?

Re: Drop UGA annually????

Why don't we just raise the level of talent and coaching and compete with them Mutts and everyone else!!!!

Re: Dropping UGA annually

Of all the teams in this world I would like to drop, UGA AIN'T one of them. Of course we have been struggling with them but that just makes winning sweeter when it happens. My desire for GT is for us to beat UGA on a consistent basis and take on as many other SEC teams as we possibly can. SEC fans have become arrogant here of late and I for one would like to slap that air off their face. The only way to do it is to beat them and you can't do that unless you play them.
DROP UGA???????
NAHHHHHHHHHH, NEVER

SMEAR UGA??????
YOU BETCHA

HUMILIATE UGA??????
NOW WE'RE TALKING BABY

Re: Dropping UGA annually

Mid, first of all, excellent post. I couldn't agree more about the likely destination of Tech football, except that I expect that Clough wants us to excel, but not at D-1.

The number of people that have tried to convince me that Clough is a strong supporter of our football program success is getting smaller all the time. I think it is quite clear to everyone that Wayne has a much different view on what success at Tech should be.

The horrifying part is that in his egg-head, I am sure he believes he is doing what is best for the program. I don't think he speaks or comprehends the language conducive to winning Division 1 conference championships. I really don't.

If Boston College can be a member of the Acc, why can't Ga. Tech play an Ivy League schedule... That is what I think Wayne wants.
As I told a friend today, I feel like I am chained to a chair, watching somebody rob my house.

Regarding your uga game plan, I never would have agreed with you a year ago.
I still demand that we play the bastahds at some point during the year until we lose 223-0, but I am almost over the line with agreeing to your plan of opening the season with them.
However, uga would know that the field will be much more level in August or Sept. than it is Thanksgiving weekend, and would never let the schedule change.

Again, great post! Depressing but great.
