On Mike and Mike this morning, Todd McShea had his 2009 Mock Draft. Going #2 Overall was none other than Georgia Tech's Michael Johnson!!! It kinda threw me back for a minute so I went and checked out some other 09 Mocks and every one I found had Johnson in the top 15 picks at least except one who had him at 28. I knew he could be a first day pick but 2nd overall??? I hope he lives up to that as a full-time starter :fingersx:

Thanks to JoeDavola on the Hive.

If he has a great year, I could see him going very early. Most teams are doing some serious investing in DEs right now and MJ is by all accounts a freak.

Heres hoping he blows everyone out and gets picked #1 :)

I can tell you right now if that happens then techbert better not ever show his face around here again.

McShay also has Vance Walker at #29 in this extremely early mock draft.

We already knew the D-line should be very strong, but its nice to see the "experts" backing that up.

Wheeler was a first round choice in many of the early mock drafts last year.

I really hope MJ shows that kind of every down playmaking and production. I guess that would be the equivalent of Chris Long at UVA last year. I do see MJ as a potential Jason Taylor/Javon Kearse/Julius Peppers type of talent. Maybe we should use MFJ as his initials (F can mean a lot of things). If we truly do have 2 first rounders on the DL this year, then my expectations may have just moved up to a making a bowl game this year.

Like others have said, this defense may actually be beastly this year... at least the line will be. With the ability this defensive line has, they may be able to keep us in enough games until the offense can catch up. Here's hoping for a fantastic first year for CPJ and the Jackets!!!

At one point Mel Kiper had James Butler on his preseason top 10 board. This is great publicity for MJ, but nothing more really.

IF he has a monster year and it is quite possible, he could be the no.1 pick like Mario Williams was 2 years back..

M.J. is poised to have a monster year under the new DC's scheme. Wommack's scheme unlike Tenuta's, free's the Def. end's up to tee off on the QB. We will be back to a more traditional defense, with less blitzing and relying upon our front 4 to bring the pressure...M.J. will have 2 of the best DT's in the country playing alongside him along with Morgan (a future NFL'er) at the other end....Not too many doubleteams coming Michael's way. He should have a monster year.

We have the best Dline in our storied history. (One thing Chan did right in bringing in great defensive talent)

Would LOVE to have a huge yr from him but
Ish called it-
MJ is in his FIRST year of starting. If he were so dominating why could not he beat out 2 guys who we were good but --didn't even get drafted.
Think about it.

For what it's worth, Chan Gailey wasn't exactly big on changing starters.

MJ hasn't started because he gets pushed around on the LOS when the other team runs the ball. UGAg's blockers buried him consistently last year on the run.

I guess in the pros he can be the pass rush and special teams phenom that he is.

While we're on the subject, where has Vance Walker been? He was our "top backup" according to ramblinwreck.com last season. And with 4 career starts, how are they putting him in the 1st round?!?

That must have been from before the season, he started every game last year and backed up Joe Anoai the year before. As for MJ, his reps had to be limited due to injuries per his father.

Why? Did he think that Chan and Tenuta knew what they were doing when they decided to make MJ a back-up?
