2009 Student Tickets

Also, I hate to sound like someone who thinks his opinion matters (it doesn't). But, I personally have put too much work into helping build SWARM into what it is today to just see it go by the wayside. People in charge know how important we are and they'll tailor this system to us.

Yeah it'd be pretty dumb of DRad to get rid of swarm.

I hate to say it but I remember hearing something about him trying to do that when he first came in. Hopefully I'm remembering wrong, because I think that would really suck. SWARM was an integral part of my college experience.

SWARM will be back next year and for many years to come. We spoke to DRad today, and he assured me that it will still be around next year. They're just waiting to work out the kinks with the new ticketing system, a move I assume has to be done on the Swarm side, not the Drad side.

Good point, Roy, I guess I just felt like it wasn't going to be as defined as before. Maybe I misunderstood. I will update this thread as I talk to the powers that be in the coming week.

If possible, can you ask if the non-season tickets will be disbursed via a priority point system, a la basketball tickets.

I'll be a 5th year graduating senior, and I'll be going to every game. I could save so money if I don't need season tickets or the Swarm to get guaranteed tickets.

Swarm definitely needs to persist. Although I have never been part, (except to get guaranteed tickets) the swarm section is the most enthusiastic in the whole field. Unfortunately, Swarm does not have the political sway (yeah, ridiculously enough, politics plays a huge role in all this) that some of the fraternities do, so alumni and students need to make a concerted effort to protect it.

Ticketing question that came up in the Nique article.

In it, it said that "unclaimed" tickets can be claimed by any students 15 minutes after kickoff, and then didn't clarify.

Is that tickets that were never reserved online (ie 8000 people asked online out of 9000 possible), or does it mean that if you are 15 minutes late to the game, you can lose your ticket?

I disagree...SWARM has enough backers with political clout for it to persist.

Well, I'm not sure what appeal SWARM will have under a season ticket system. Sure, you get a...shirt, but the biggest part of the package was guaranteed entry, essentially a student season ticket. Now those students could just pay $36 for the season ticket instead, especially if 1st and 10 is an additional $10 on top of the season ticket price.

I also have a feeling the price for student season tickets will escalate pretty rapidly in the years to come, with the online system for the rest of the seats to help against discontent among Tech students.

Yeah, exactly. People didn't do swarm so that they could make a donation to 1st and 10, they did it for the guaranteed seats.

The biggest question now is will seniors get priority for online tickets, like in basketball.

Personally, I did it so I could be around other people who were as passionate about sports as I was.

Yeah, I would definitely pay the $25 again for the t-shirts and being able to sit in a group of excited people. It's fun to get to games way early (think camping out for the UGA game and watching LSU/Arkansas two years ago on a 4" tv :p) and hang out with people who really care about college football. I hope swarm continues, even if the benefit of guaranteed season tickets is no longer exclusive to us.

I did too. But I was thinking about it, and there's like 1000+ people in SWARM...that dedicated group of us who would camp out and stuff probably represents a very small percentage of the larger organization.

In the past couple years, Kevin has done a great job of extending SWARM beyond just the guaranteed seats, with the women's basketball promotions and the tennis trips. Again, though, the number of people who actually take advantage of that stuff is (sadly) probably a small percentage of the whole number.
