2012 Recruiting Thread

2008 VT #20 with 31 commits, GT #37 with 20 commits
2009 VT #41 with 22 commits, GT #32 with 21 commits
2010 VT #37 with 19 commits, GT #41 with 18 commits
2011 VT #39 with 21 commits, GT #42 with 22 commits
2012 VT #19 with 26 commits, GT #54 with 11 commits

Looking at the past 5 years it appears we are pretty much equal to VT in recruiting with the exceptions being 2008 and the current year, however I think the numbers of commits are skewing the numbers in those years. In the current year VT has one 4* and SEVEN 2* recruits, while we have one 4* and one 2*. The difference is they are probably done at this point and we still have several spots to fill and several big fish on the line like Tomlinson (4*), McCalister (3*), Orjioke (3*), Shumate (4*), and Ekakatie (4*). This class could turn out to be a very good one.

I would settle for two top twenty recruiting classes in six years, like VPI. We got one under CG and won a Championship under CPJ. Bottom line, we need some top twenty classes and So Far none under CPJ, maybe this year?

It's a hard comparison to make since vpi oversigns--not SEC level, but not insignificant. Just look at what you have there, they've taking 119+ in 5 years while we're taking 92+. Given the scholarship limit of 85, we're looking at an attrition rate of 2-3 a year while they're looking at closer to 7 a year.
yeah, through oversigning, they made their class even better by choosing best 85 of 119+ signed

No wonder they still played at the same level even after half their D was out.

Sure GT has had comparable OVERALL recruiting as VT.

However, looking at overall recruiting fails to take into account the mega-athletes they continue to recruit. Tyrod Taylor, D. Wilson, Logan Thomas, Jared Boykin.

Reality Check, we've lost in back to back years b/c of our inability to stop those guys. Argue all you want but its a fact.

I disagree. We should easily have a 4 game winning streak vs. them. Bullshit late hit call in 2008, Nesbitt hurt when we were about to take a 21-0 lead or 21-7, and Attouchou ööööing up this season.

Although I agree with the fact that we should have one last year. This year was neck and neck. Sure J.A effed up, but there was still 15+ minutes left in the game. We had at least 3 possessions after his punch. We lost that game b/c of our inability to stop L. Thomas and D. Wilson.

If CPJ can consistently recruit 1-2 playmakers on offense per year we will be able to contend and decisively beat VT and Clemson. We won't have to win based on superior coaching alone.

We've got the coaching, we just need the athletes.

Nesbitt got hurt after turning the ball over while leading 14-7 in the FIRST HALF. That game was far from decided when the interception and injury happened.

True, but about to go up two scores before halftime and IIRC we were going to get the ball after halfime. Not saying it was over, but we were about to be in a VERY, VERY good spot.

I think our inability to stop logan thomas was directly caused our inability to get the ball back after the punch.

Face it he was not throwing perfectly, some misplayed balls and great catches went for big gains, but when he faced pressure (as has been the case all year) he was not so great. We probably go up 2 possessions if we get it back. We had just broken their back with an 80+ yard drive and were going to get the ball back in under a minute after that.

As for recruiting...Go Tech Go!

Which is impressive considering they have won, what, 4 more ACC titles than us this decade or something while also being the only big football destination in their state?

What is the difference in FSU of the 80's and 90's with the FSU of the 2000's? They recruit about the same every year. Quarterback! Same with Texas, Southern Cal, Tennessee, Florida, Miami, Auburn, Ohio State, etc.

+1....................! Perfectly characterized, factually correct and absolutely spot on.....!

The Georgia game couldn't have helped recruiting. Who was in attendance? How many spots do we have left to give?

Tomlinson was there.....he has Bama and GT as his top 2....any word on his status?

We made Faith Ekakitie's final four with Iowa, Northwestern and BC.

He's been posting his recruiting experiences in a blog -- http://faithflex.com

His description of his official visit to GT should be published there within the next couple of weeks.

Man, if we land he and/or Dalvin on top of the DL we already have committed, this will be a strong class

He's got a pretty badass name regardless of talent.

He also went from Rivals #120 to unranked in their Top 250. Not that those rankings are paramount, but the largest drop on the list.

If/when he commits to Tech they'll probably remove his Rivals page and pretend like he never existed.
