Hmmm. Interesting that Lawson has visited Kansas, but isn't showing an offer on Rivals, though he does show one on 247. Do they have room? Perhaps he is waiting to find out?

Lawson's brothers were originally recruited by Pastner to Memphis and their father was on his staff there. So we have a pretty good connection here, too.

This would make up for whiffing on Watson.

The tweet was incorrect. The article was referring to Coach Schwartz, who was the main recruiter for the Lawson brothers, not Lawson's dad. Lawson's dad was offered the chance to come with Pastner, but stayed at Memphis and worked under Tubby. Apparently, the Lawson family has soured on Memphis but still have a good relationship with Pastner.

Its good that we have a connection, but I worry about Kansas getting more involved.

Pastner needs to expand his horizons and get ballers from Europe.

I saw that coming. He was a "nike kid" where his high profile AAU & HS team wore nike, he posted pictures of himself wearing Jordan brand a lot.

Temper your expectations. It's not like Tech has ever been able to nab McDonald's All-Americans. Bosh, JJ, Favors, Shumpert, Marbury, Lawal, Glover, Thad Young, and (dare I say) C********* were all unheralded diamond-in-the-rough recruits.

And with all those recruits you just listed, how many times did we made it the tournament? I see a lot of NIT appearances from those players. Quit acting like we have some great history in the last 15 years of GT hoops.

Odd that you cut it off at 15 years.

Although I get your point, Marbury and Glover were for sure not in the last 15 years.

You are right. Glover 1999 and Marbury was 1996 -- I think the statement still rings true if I would have said last 20 years.

It's true that we usually underachieved under Hewitt, but that was never due to recruiting. It's not an either/or proposition where you can either be good or have good players. Good coaches will typically get results with good players. Since we have a history of reeling in good players, it's a legitimate question why we are having such a hard time doing so now.

The only two explanations I give any credence to are 1) the aforementioned reality that schools like Kentucky and Duke are consolidating the top players at an even greater rate than they used to, and 2) high school kids today have no memory of us being relevant (and sadly, many of them have probably never even watched an NCAA tournament in which we were a participant). Even so, a supposedly good recruiter like Pastner will need to find a better way to sell Tech to 4 and 5-star players if he's going to be successful here.
