Didn't we have an epic, never before seen collapse last season in the regionals? Can someone explain to me what happened and how to advance? Almost completely golf illiterate.

Here’s a link to last year’s Regional thread.

    https://stingtalk.com/board/threads/ncaa-golf-raleigh-regional.96848/

We stumbled hard in the last few holes to fall out of the Top 5. After playing mediocre golf in a tightly-grouped Regional. As for the rules, College Golf is funky:

    - Teams consist of 5 players who all play 3 rounds of 18 holes.
    - The Team Score for the day consists of the total score of the Top 4 players from that team for that day (worst score is dropped).
    - Top 5 teams from each regional advance to the Finals which is played a week or two after (30 teams). Additionally, the top individual not from one of those teams advances.

This creates for some wild standings from hole to hole. Teams can swing 5/6 strokes on a single hole relative to other teams fairly easily.

Why would a 2 seems travel and a 3 seed get to stay home? Is it related to the quality of the teams' home courses?

They pick the courses before they pick the teams/seeds. I imagine a team will always get to stay at their home course if they make the field. But it doesn’t appear that they considered travel time in any of the other cases. So if we had performed slightly worse this season we could have stayed in GA.

Currently T-2 at -8 through 9-11 holes. Just a few stroked back of OU. Lot of teams bunched together still though. Howe (our #5) is currently sitting in 3rd at -4. Big day from him so far.

Struggled on the Back 9. Currently sitting in 5th at -8. Only 5 back of OU who's still leading the pack. Only 8 strokes separates 1st/8th right now. We should be in the clubhouse in the next ~45 minutes.

Finished the day with a little surge at -9. OU fell apart at the end at -10. A&M sitting in 1st at -11. 7 strokes separate 1st/9th.

    Decent day over all.

I guess we have later start times today than yesterday?

Edit: nope, we're in the early group again.

Par 5 5th kind to us today. An eagle, 2 birds and Howe's score not yet posted.

Team scoring pretty well today but Howe just posted a triple on 6 so any fall off by the other guys now will hurt the team score.

    BYU destroying the back 9.

Strafaci has struggled hard so far. Only guy for us over par on the tournament at +3.

Not a bad day but we’ve lost a lot of ground on the Back 9. Sitting tied for 4th at -15 with CSU who is -14 on the day through 7-9 holes.

We’ve still got some holes left to work with today. But only 4 strokes up on 6th place UCLA. Looking like buttholes will be clenched tomorrow.

The scoring in our regional is crazy compared to all of the others. This course must be very easy for these guys. We are currently in a tie for 4th, which is somewhat borderline. However, there is a sizable gap between us and the 6th place team. The gap between us and 1st place is smaller than the gap between us and 6th fwiw.

Howe fighting back to E for the day (after the triple) has been huge for the team score.

Good to see Luke turning it on a little to end his round today, birdieing 2 of the last 3. Strafaci +5 on the back 9. Eesh. Norton with a double on 17 hurts too.

Norton’s double was a bummer. Had been on a nice run til then heading into the clubhouse.

Edit - Howe finishes our day with a birdie to get to -19. 4 strokes back on A&M in 1st and only 1 back from OU in 3rd.

Edit again - the teams around us really fell apart down the stretch after we were already done for the day. Sitting in a very good spot now. Up 10 strokes on 6th.
