why the öööö do you pull JT back for a pass rather than running the goddamn ball two more times for a first down and Duke runs out of timeouts?

Now you're 3rd and 12.

And now you got a false start...

ööööing idiot.

Same reason why you call a TO and save Puke from burning one after JT's game-winning, chicken-salad-from-chicken-$hit run.

Because the pass was working. Just didn't work on that play

Disagree. Duke was selling out 100% against the run and daring us to beat them. JT was absolutely destroying them through the air all game long. I say props to CPJ for calling a play that is likely to work rather than being a pussy. It also looked like JT was instructed NOT to throw an incompletion, so we were quite aware of the situation. You complete the pass there, you win the game. If we run the dive, we probably get 2-3 yards, end up in a tough situation on 3rd down, and then if you try to pass Duke is ready for it.

What gets me about the end of the game is why didn't Duke just let us score? Seems like they had a better shot at the game by letting us score, getting the kickoff and trying to get a quick FG, then onside kick and try for a TD. I would have just let Thomas go to the endzone on the long run, even with 3 timeouts, since it was obvious we could run the clock down to nothing with the first down and field position. Just turn it into an end of the game shootout

I haven't read through all the other threads so I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere, but I couldn't make this game and was watching on TV. On that 3rd and 17 play the TV announcer actually said STTE, "This is a dangerous down and distance for Duke because Justin Thomas can clear the field with his receivers then use his legs to beat you." I lol'd when it happened because that's exactly what he did, and how many times have we heard "this offense isn't built for 3rd and long." Who's offense is? Obviously now, Justin Thomas is the only thing that is built for 3rd and long.

Well, he has seen it all.

This past weekend was the first time I recall seeing our offense do what it's actually supposed to do. The whole point, in the end, is to scare the other team with the option into pulling 9 in the box, and then throw four verticals at them. It is literally the entire point. I'm so glad we finally did what we were supposed to do.

Agreed and I didn't mind the call. Instead of playing to run the clock out, play to what is working and don't give them a chance to get the ball back. It didn't work out but I liked the play call and I liked Justin's decision to go down instead of throwing away. If you recall, we haven't had the best of luck in 4th and short situations...
I read somewhere that JT had a 99.7 Total QBR which is the highest of any player this season. With a little time in the pocket, we annihilated that defense. Offense is playing well and I hope we continue to put it in the air. WR are catching the ball and it's pretty to watch. The last TD pass was beautiful. Just give JT a little time to make a read without running for his life and that's what happens. Great offensive game. Fun to watch.
Defense, simply wow. AJ Gray is a stud but we missed PJ.
