Would any of y'all have gone for the TD there?

21-14 is a lot better than 21-10. Too risky?

It was the right call with that much time left, at that point we were at least moving the ball and with a few posessions left (if we get a couple stops) there was plenty of time to score and get the win.

Not a ballsy call by any means, but not ultra conservative, play not to lose, like we've seen before. Sure I would have liked to see them go for the TD, and maybe get some mo', but sometimes the cards don't fall that way.

4th and 3 you go for it, 4th and 13 you take the FG. With that much time left, you expect to get the ball back twice afterwards, and you need 3 scores of some type to go ahead, so go ahead and take one score now.

I agree with the poster (and it's not hindsight 20/20 - I said the same thing to the rest of our group when they sent out Bell). My point is with the FG, you still need 2 scores but the TD + 2 PT + FG isn't much more favorable than having to score 2 TDs and convert both PATs. The probability of a 2point conversion is less than 50% (I think it's in the 30s).

Also, considering the new kickoff rules - if you don't score (or get the first down, I think it was 4th & 13 from the 15) you still leave them with worse FP (IIRC, they ended up at the 23 on the kickoff, which isn't too bad but you didn't know that when it was time for the decision). The defense would be in a little more favorable position (BC would have to be a little more conservative inside the 20 because they already saw how costly a TO would've been - with the overturned fumble recovery on the KO). We still needed 2 TD's to win after the FG...pretty pointless to kick a FG if you ask me.

It was the right call...almost no chance that we picked up the first down or scored in that situation, but getting a field goal then gave us a better opportunity to win.

I felt like it was a loss for the O when we kicked the field goal. Going for it would have been ballsy. Its what I would have done, but I'm good at golf and not the football thing.

And what exactly were our chances of 1) stopping them on their next 2 possessions and 2) scoring two more TD's in the 4th qtr? A lot worse than our chances of making a 4th and 13. And imagine what it would've done for our momentum and psyche! The game was on the line and we "checked".

It would've been a ballsy call indeed but such calls and plays are the difference between champions and those with .580 seasons.
Sorry, but I always prefer to go down swinging instead of looking.

I wanted to go for the TD because I felt two things:

1. We probably will not have two more scoring opportunities --the offense had been struggling most of the night.

2. We would have to stop BC twice in order to have two more scoring opportunities.

That being said, 4th and 13 from the 15 means you're probably throwing into the end zone, which we were unable to do on the previous plays on this particular set of downs. Plus there was over 10 minutes left in the game at the time of the FG.

All things considered probably the right call was the FG.

It ended up not mattering because BC got a field goal anyways, but I felt the same way.

1) At the time, BC hadn't converted a 3rd down in the entire second half, and hadn't scored since their first two possessions.

2) Our chances of scoring 2 more TDs in the 4th quarter no worse than our chances of converting a 4th and 13, scoring another TD, and making a 2 point conversion, in the 4th quarter, which is what you'd prefer we tried.

I was watching the game at home and I remember Taylor's face when he saw they weren't going for it. He was pissed! I would have liked to see them go for it, especially when your qb has the confidence to go. Although if he would have went for it and not gotten it I would have probably been pissed that they went for it.

At the time I thought it was too conservative, but then when they kicked a field goal on the next possession and we were still within two scores I definitely accepted it(though I think I probably would have gone for it too). Our chances of succeeding on that fourth down were probably not very good.

There was still a lot of time left in the game, plus there's always a chance of getting a turnover, blocking a punt, etc, and getting good field position for a quick score. Odds of making a 4th and 13 from the 15 yard line are very small, so yes, I contend the odds were better to go ahead and kick the field goal.

This is EXACTLY why I wanted us to go for it.

Why would we need a 2 point conversion?
