I did not follow the recruiting season as most of you have until the last year or two. What 5 star HS recruits have come to GT over the last 10 years or so? I'm talking 5 star recruits while they were seniors in HS.
I do realize that the star rating is just somebody's idea of the recruits ability so no need to get technical here.

Reggie was a 3 star.

Calvin was the only 5 star recruit Tech has in the Scout database.

you know what I find funny.

CJ was 4 star when the day he committed on Scout. Scott Kennedy wanted him a 5 star and was fighting with everyone else to put him there and they didn't listen. They were wrong.

now if you look at his ranking he is listed 5 star years after the fact.

Talk about revisionist history.

So to the posters question. Depending on what you believe about CJ we haven't had a true 5 star recruit here in i can't tell you how long. I would say 0 in the past 10 years.

before 1998, the closest may have been donnie davis or yes I believe Derrick Steagall was a 4-5 star QB in HS? The other closest was Hobie Holiday, he was 4 star but on the fringe.

I thought Rashan Grant was a five star until he committed to us, then got downgraded. I could be wrong though.

Only two 5 star recruits in our history. Remember that before 1996, they really didn't have star rankings. And from 1994 to 2001 you basically had a handful of services like BorderWars and SuperPrep ranking the kids with stars.
Calvin Johnson was a 5 star recruit when he committed to GT per Scout. He was 4 stars by Rivals.
Quincy Carter was a 5 star recruit when he committed to GT in 1995.

Had the star rankings been around in the early years, guys like Donnie Davis would have easily been ranked 5 stars. Donnie Davis was USA Today player of the year and on the cover of the Sports page in 1990-1991.

You are. He was a 4 star and stayed that way even after he sustained a bad knee injury his senior year.

BOR, a guy on the hive a week ago posted a screen shot of CJ's scout ranking back when he committed...it was 4 stars. The only reason why I made that post here is b/c that stuck out in my mind bigtime...and then they talked about the scott kennedy issues in that thread. If I can find it i will try to link it...

Edit:
BOR you are right...i confused the screen for scout..it was a rivals screen...my bad
