6 game-opening TDs in CPJ era

2011 Western Carolina
2011 Middle Tennessee State
2011 Kansas
2012 UVA
2016 Vanderbilt

There was another... at least?

I want to know if another coach has done this in the modern era.

Didn't AA take the first 3O pitch to the house against Clem in 2009?

Edit... forgot Nesbitt threw a deep pick on first play and then AA scored on the first play of the 2nd drive.

No, first play was an INT. 1st play of 2nd drive was TD by AA though.

Edit: Too many edits.

The most gloriously slow Aback run of all time.

Or at least it looked slow in my mind.

The first game I attended after moving back to Atlanta - such a nice welcome home. Woke up my whole apartment building coming back from that one.

According to my somewhat incomplete stats database, there have been 175 scores on the opening play of a team's first drive of the game, not including kickoff and punt returns, since 2008 in games involving at least one FBS team. These have been scored by 98 different teams, and Tech is 2nd among all of them:

#1: Utah State (8)
#2: Georgia Tech (6)
#3: New Mexico (5)
#T-4: UCLA (4)
#T-4: Kansas State (4)
#T-6: (more than a dozen teams) (3)

As you can see, we have a wide lead over other Power 5 teams. Kansas State's last such score was in 2015, UCLA's was in 2013.

öööö Utah State. Buncha bitches.

Look at how packed the stadium was. Even the south endzone was totally full. Haven't seen that in years.

That's me on the the side of the field right at he goal line. AA was sucking wind so hard you could hear him breathing from the 30.

Got to watch both Clemson games front the sideline that year. It was awesome.

Think I recall a first-play TD against Miss St. but since no one is mentioning it perhaps I'm misremembering. Not sure how to check such things.

Nvr mind - found the play by play - scored on opening drive but not opening play.

Thank you for compiling this. Frankly I'm shocked any team has more than we have.

Cool! I'm curious what teams Utah State did it to. Do you have the list still? I'm wondering how many were FCS. We have 4 FBS vs. 2 FCS.
