I saw earlier where people were quoting a sporting news article for 6 years and 14 mil, but AJC is stating 7 years and "more than 11 million." Not sure how much more -- as if Duke was offering 2 mill, we are offering with this contract 1.6 mill. If this is true, then maybe we do have money for Tenuta?

"Johnson's contract is for seven years, and more than $11 million dollars, according to athletics director Dan Radakovich. He described the search as "gut-wrenching," but said he was overjoyed with the result."

Wow, not nearly as bad we all thought. That makes me feel a lot better.

It works out to about $1.6 million a year, which ain't too much and it ain't too little. The AJC said SMU was offering to pay whatever it took to get him. PJ made the right choice, however.

Does anyone know the actual specfics of the contract? All I have seen is 6yrs and MORE than 11 million. MORE than 11 million could be 12, 13, 14, 15 etc.

Also what - if any buy out either way is in the contract?

At the end of the press conference they leave the camera rolling and you can hear Dan say to someone that it is for 7 years. Couldn't make out anything else but that would seem to confirm that it is 7 years not 6 years which could mean the second set of numbers is more accurate.

Also, just a thought but stating it is 11+ million could be referring to the fact that his base is right around the $1.6M number but he has incentives to get him above that level. So he could be making just over 11 million for sure with a chance to make significantly more. I guess we will find out soon enough.

haha, jk. I'd be interested to know this as well. I think it would say a lot about his desire to coach here.

People should say "more than 11" instead of "14" because of the incentives. They will be the difference between 11+ and 14.

Is that where the 14 million came from - incentives? If so that would be ~ $600,000/yr in incentives.

According to Barnhart at the AJC, SMU could/did offer more money, but Johnson took less to come to TECH.

Even at 14 mill (which I doubt--most business people do not say more than 11 mill when it is really 14 mill--3 mill is a big difference), 7 years is better, as we are still at the 2 mill salary and not 2.3 mill salary mentioned earlier

Interesting. Who was it that put the 6 years 14 million stat on Stingtalk initially?
