I was able to catch the show afterall... for those of you "far away" ... enjoy
Marylands only ACC lost is to FSU.. 37-10..
Wes: Wake not a very good memory... how has the team come back..
Gailey: Guys are working hard... proper attitude... but the loss hurt... but you have to learn to deal with it and move on.... have been able to do a little more this week due to the fall break.. got a little more meeting time in etc..
Caller: Is AJ looking over his shoulder? (in regrds to Bilbo) Questions about AJ's execution? Where does Manget stand?
Gailey: AJ is looking to make big plays.. at times you wish he had taken what was there ... but if he had made the play, we would have been talking about what a great play... doesnt think AJ is looking over his shoulder... Bilbo and Suggs are great guys who are more concerned with playing their roles... Manget kicked off very well yesterday at practice... expects him to be 100% by Thursday... his range against Wake was probably about 40 yards...
Wes talks about the punt returner for MD.. reminds him alot of Rhino...
Talks about the job that Watkins is doing on kickoff returns... excellent work here... special teams played well last week... PJ was mentioned for his great return as well...
Gailey sees the game with MD as being a game that could be decided by special teams...
Next call in show will be next Thursday...
Caller: Really disappointing loss.. makes MD crucial for our season... if we lose MD, our season is in jeopardy... how has he addressed this with the team... what have we worked on in terms of the 2 min offense... realizes we have been spoiled by Hamilton and Godsey... but what are we doing about putting a playmaker on the field during 2-minute situations
Gailey: We have worked hard on 2 min offense... we are two 2-minute offenses away from 6-0.... practice this at every practice.... every game is critical... wouldnt worry about being underdogs... underdogs play every week... this is a big game because its the game we play this week... we dont like losing, so we have to do something about it...
Wes: tell me about Md.. got handled by ND... lose to FSU ... then dominated WVA...
Gailey: They are a very good football team... have stayed fairly healthy... they have good team speed... they have continued to get better each week... especially at QB... the QB has gotten better each week, we better know where Henderson is, he is a great player...
Caller: In the WF game, there always seems to be one or two plays that define the outcome of the game... asks a question about the punt on 4th and short... WF goes on a long drive and scores... if we had gone for that and made it ... it may have changed the complexion of the game...
Gailey: Gailey agrees... but says that you never know about those things... he elected to back them up and trust the defense... he felt that if we missed, giving them the ball at the 50 yard line was not a smart thing to do... he agrees.. wishes he had gone for it now, knowing the outcome... but tried to do the best thing he could to help them win the ball game...
hindsight is always 20/20
Caller: Question about the defense.. what was our struggle adjusting to the WF offense... asks about the cushion on the receivers...
Gailey: The adjustments we were trying to make or made were solid .. they just did a good job calling plays that countered our adjustments... we have not been a big bump, press type team on the corners... like to bring pressure, but not at the expense of playing bump and run... this is due to our lack of height at the corners... we are going to mix it up more and more as time goes on just to create confusion for their recievers...
Just a note.. Gailey seems to be a little more intense as compared to the call in show before WF... a little more "bottom line" than usual...
Caller: Question about Bilbo's playing time... what more does he need to improve on to get more playing time
Gailey: Overall he did some good things.. but he has to get better in practice... it cant be one or two plays here and there... there has to be some consistency invovled, and not just a good play here and there... Bilbo is ciming along.. but is not at a consistent level yet...
Wes notes that he has gotten better as time goes on....
Gailey notes that we have been able to evaluate him as time goes on ... Bilbo is gaining confidence as time goes on... he is getting better.
Talks about PJ... PJ has a little more speed.. did a great job on the kickoff return.. saw more explosion during that one play that they had seen during all the practices... but he is going to get more of a chance to get involved... he is not ready to play a full game, but is getting the opportunity to show more of what he can do..
Talks about where we are in terms of not having Ford, Clinkscale etc... and talks about ACE, Sampson, and Daniels really being excited about the opportunity on Thursday night...
Caller: What is the status of our defensive ends?
Gailey: Hargrove, Henderson, and Wright will have to lead the way here... also talks about Fox.. he is playing alot of places and playing them well... Gailey says that Fox could be our best player thus far this year on defense..
Caller: What is the mood of the team? Considering the murders in the DC area...
Gailey: first of all we are taking every precaution you can take in terms of security... we are staying in Baltimore... we travel with security... and are very aware of whats going on... dont sense anything from the team in terms of nervousness about that.... he thinks they are like everybody else, that he gets caught soon...
Gailey: If you look at both GT and Md.. special teams are important to both teams... he feels this will be a big point in this game...
Wes: Md is last in offense in the ACC this year..
Gailey expects them to put 7 in the box ... challenging us to throw against them...
Nate Curry has had a good week of practice this week... hopes to get Will Heller back soon... have really stressed impoving in the passing game this week in practice... they are looking for consistency in the passing game... not so much big plays... but consistenncy...
Dan Dyke is a teachers assistant for a Calculus class ... Gailey talks about Dan Dyke is extremely intelligent... he doesnt go to you for the answers... you go to him for the answers... Talks about how both punters are doing good...
Wes: At 4-2 ... midway thru the season ... are you OK with things... are you satisfied...
Gailey: No.. not satisfied... the team is evolving... we are coming together... but we are not there yet... Coaches are still learning the players... and players are still learning the coaches... he will never be satisfied... you expect to win them all...
I-Perfection is being redshirted...
Ford is not better... you can look in his eyes and see how badly he wants to play... but you can also look in his eyes and see he isnt ready... if it were up to Ford.. he would have been out there 3 weeks ago... the doctors dont think he is ready...
