The Dawgs are blaming the refs for an excessive celebration penalty as the cause for the LSU loss (since bad tackling and interceptions aren't reason enough) but apparently the "excessive celebration" penalty itself was lobbied by and attributed to none other than the "great" UGA coach Vince Dooley...

Really? I guess they didn't see the run that LSU scored on. He could have run for an extra 20 yards if needed.

exactly --he would have run for 99 1/2 yards had the ball been inside the LSU 1.

in my opinion, their s***ty offense ruined the game. Joe "INT" Cox threw a beautiful pass... right to the LSU defender!

I think the video above is a much more blatant example. Not only is there a pile up, but it lasts longer, and I think there are players who run onto the field.

While this is true, the point I've heard (and I have to agree it does make sense) is that because LSU only needed a FG to win, after the return it was close enough to field goal range where it could take a chance to run the ball. Had the call not been made and the kick had been a touchback or returned to the 30 yard line or so, it is not as likely that LSU's play calling would have been the same. I am not saying that the call cost UGA the game, but it did have an impact. Also, the call against LSU was even worse. The guy pointed to the sky to thank G-d. You can tell because he first kisses his hand, which you see a lot of players do before they point to the sky (I'm thinking of a lot of Latin players when they get a single). To me, this is like calling a penalty when a player drops to a knee. I don't care if you make that a penalty, but then both of them are illegal.

Maybe if U[sic]GA hadn't run out on the field against UF a few years ago, or if they hadn't led the world in penalties the past two years, refs might give them the benefit of the doubt. But when you earn a reputation --- and make no mistake, that reputation is well earned --- as foolish and undisciplined players, this will continue to happen.
 
I like that video and the storyline behind it. Too bad I am not close enough to any Georgia fans to rain irony on their excuse parade.
 
I don't think the penalties are the reason for the loss or a good excuse, but they certainly hurt and in my opinion all three were BS(I can KIND of see the first one but thought it was a quick flag too.) If this was an ACC game I think the refs would be getting killed on here for the calls.
 
eh, they called it both way. I thought the officiating was a little bit tighter than it should be, but as long as they're impartial it is what it is.
 
Latest article from UGAJC saying that SEC officials ruled call on Green was incorrect but one on LSU's Scott was correct.

Redding said that the penalty on Scott was called correctly.

That's some bullshi*. The call on Scott was a make-up call if I ever saw one. Since when is thanking God for a TD run considered excessive celebration?
