I would think Paul Johnson would generate a lot of excitement for our fans. He was down my list a little bit (only because Im not sure he is committed to Defense) Im hoping he would be at GT. .

But anyone, except Muschamp.

There is just some interesting info regarding the type of spread attack he runs today...and the myriad of offensive packages he has used beginning with his time at Hawaii as the OC with a strong passing attach.

I really like the fact that Paul Johnson seems to adapt his offense to the strengths of his players. I also love the comparison to Spurrier, as an offensive genius..........I would be very happy with this hire.

He doesn't run the spread. He runs the old-school triple-option out of the flexbone. I don't know why they keep saying he runs it.

Just like Friedgen when he was at Tech....the TO-flexbone. Joe Hamilton ran it.

Even though it is a video game I think this video will give you an idea of the kind of stuff PJ runs. In this vid the guy is using Navy's playbook. PJ primarily runs the triple option out of both the Flexbone and the Split back formation.

PJ ran the Triple O at Navy because it fit the talent and abilities of the team. He adapted an offense to fit the team not vice-versa. This is what makes him a good coach. It does not mean he will run it here.

Thank God for the Triple O and Lil Joe!

which is a version of the spread offense.

Check out this quote from BYU's Lavell Edwards after Hawaii dismantled them 59-28 the same day Ty Detmer won the Heisman...this was when PJ was offensive coordinator. This is a separate article from the other two. Listen...I have my concerns as well...but we have to look for what could happen...he does win and he is seen as tremendously innovative. I know Ralph Friedgen thinks highly of him.

Hawaii's spread offense, from which it normally performed running plays, blossomed to its full potential against BYU, with quarterback Garrett Gabriel blowing the Cougars away play-after-play. "I tell you what, the first one was a surprise to us. But 1990 was the year we beat Miami and Ty (Detmer) had just won the Heisman that day," Edwards said. "I think they surprised us with the passing and when they found us vulnerable to it so they kept going with it. Gabriel had two great games against us. The matchups were always a little difficult for us when they spread it out, particularly with the slotbacks."
