A good post

I don't get why Auburn is top ten. Nothing personal against Auburn; just don't think their song is memorable or great. The rest of the top ten seems right, but the order comes down to personal taste.

Number one worst song is indisputaby correct. "The cesspool of the South!"

Boomer Sooner sucks. And Auburn’s fight song is also Glory Glory so it sucks.

And S. Carolina’s fight song is Step to the Rear
Not sure about Carolina's fight song but their alma mater is one of the most pleasant I've ever heard. My daughter graduated from there (many moons ago) and I recall being there in the Columbia Auditorium for the matriculatory ceremonies (Lou Holtz keynote) and the whole place stood up and sang the alma mater. People were hugging and crying all over the place. It was all I could do under the circumstances to keep it together. Very emotional. And Lou's talk wash really very good.

That sounds a lot like the famous La Marseillaise scene from Casablanca. Although I don’t think anyone would confuse Lou Holtz with Humphrey Bogart.

Wow. I get it but what a streeeetch. I could look up Lou's speech online somewhere. It was compelling.

Rocky Top is one of many great songs written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant. I hate that UT stole the song. Since the song was written in 1967, I presume they had a really crappy fight song prior to that time.

I love Rocky Top but it is not a fight song. Tennessee had a long standing fight song but began using Rocky Top to entertain and fire up its crowd. It now gets much more play than their fight song. But, it is much like our adoption of Budweiser or The Horse as "our" song. To me, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Georgia Tech and perhaps Michigan have the four truly outstanding fight songs.

Not far behind for me are the fight songs of Northwestern, Ohio State, USC, and Auburn. I did not understand the critique of Clemson, I like their song. The Big 10 has the best fight songs overall - Minnesota and Illinois have good ones. I also love the UCLA song, which got no love in this best and worst list.

I agree UNCheat has a lovely alma mater. They stole the tune from Cornell - "Far Above Cayuga's Waters". Figures.
