A must read re: recruiting in Macon Tele

Interesting read. Bobby Ross is such a good guy...he commented to me in the late 80's that he could not believe how fans in the southeast tracked recruiting like a religion. He thought we were crazy...adding that up north no one cared...they only looked at the current roster...and that was only when the NFL was not in session!

Coach Ross also was fond of pointing out that Georgia Tech as the hardest school to recruit at other than the academies.

I just spoke with a friend at church this morning that talked with Ross a couple of weeks ago (his son plays for him at Army) and he commented that recruiting has reach an all new level of difficult with the war.

Bobby is a straight shooter.

Thanks for posting this, ramblin. Reading it reminded me of Donnie Davis...does anyone know where he is today?

It's no secret that college football up the eastern seaboard is nothing of importance. They care about football as much as the South, but only the pro game.

based on the timing of that discussion with Ross, he was new to southern football. I'd bet that he wouldn't feel the same after '89 or '90.
Regarding his recruiting difficulties, he sure hasn't shied away from "the toughest jobs".

But he has never been happy in one place for any period of time
I am not knocking him, I wish he had stayed here

If college football didn't have sidelines to run out of bounds unlike the arena league, DD could have had a better career at Tech. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Correct...shortly after he left for San Diego after finishing 7-5 regular season (+ win in Aloha Bowl)...he said he never would have left GT if it were not for his friendship with Bobby Beathard...and his disappointment that GT fans did not sell out season tickets after winning the national championship.

The program grew under him and I do think if he has stayed it would have been a full house with in 5 years
This place was in the pits when he came here

There is no Albany AFL team....are thinking AFL2 maybe...(the minor league of Arena football)

now you guys are really confusing me. I am talking about Ross leaving Tech to go to San Diego...and you guys are talking about Shaun Jones and Arena League when responding to my posts.

Am I losing my mind?
