Since there was no way to get Friegden, Ross, Beamer, Stoops, which of these candidates would you have supported for head coach at Tech: Willingham, Taffe, Robinson, Strong, etc.?

What is your answer to the above?

We can not include Mac, O'Brien, Roof or Kelly as candidates, because it had already been stipulated by the committee and Braine that none of the prior staff would be considered as head coach at GT.

Who will be available as coaches in 2 years? Cause that's about when we'll be officially looking (again).
.
Dream candidate!!!!= dissatisified pro coach Steve Spurrier decides to head south and re-enter the college ranks at Tech. Pinch me...I'm dreaming.

bobby dodd's ghost .. you've accepted the fact that gailey will be here at least two years unless he decides to quit.

there is no other likely scenario of him not being head coach at tech for this and the next season.

why not support him for this (minimum) period of two years?

maybe he proves that his hiring was the right thing for tech (which i whole heartedly believe unless we have two consecutive seasons without any post season appearances).

maybe he doesn't. we can think about replacing him at the end of two years if there's a need to (here's to hoping there's no need to cause i believe that Gailey will come through).

so why think about forming a committee two years from now when there are more pressing matters at hand like a hot virginia team visiting us for homecoming??!

ahsoisee,

beeware doesn't respond to stupid "ahsoshit" questions like this ok.

please stop wasting his time.

he is too busy thinking of something negative to say about MA TECH's football program right now to come of with stupid hypothetical crap.

2 potentially unhappy pro coaches. Spurrier and Butch Davis. When we played um in the Gator Bowl I stayed at the same hotel as um. got to talk to Davis a couple of times adn he seems like a great guy and I think very good coach.

I'm for Jimmy Robinson or Steve Spurrier. It may not be as ridiculous as you think for Spurrier to end up here if he ever got tired of the pros.

He was an assistant coach here before our facilities were redone.

Do you think he would rather live in Gainesville, FL or Atlanta? I wouldn't be surprised if he left for the pros as an acceptable way to get out of Gainesville. Have you ever spent any time in that hot, humid, rain every day - literally miserable swamp. There are not many more miserable places in the summer than Gainesville.

And maybe Gainesville has some golf courses but they do not compare to the array of our courses which I think are the best in the country. I think if we got him a house in Ansley Park, a membership to East Lake and one or two other in town courses - Capitol City and Ansley - both have phenomenal suburban courses also - he would be in hog heaven. And do you think he enjoys those grainy and usualy slow bermuda greens in Florida or the wonderful and fast bent grass greens we have?

He may like the courses in the DC area but they don't compare to ours. Plus our intown courses are much more accessible and far better than any quality courses he can get to quickly and easily in the DC area. And our weather is better in the winter - actually the difference between being able to play and not play.

I also think that he probably would the like intellect of our athletes versus those he had at Florida.

I may be dreaming - but you never can tell. Who thought South Carolina would end up with Lou Holtz?

If the timing was right, I think that we might have a chance just on the golf angle.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">USC was a easy sell for Holtz: SEC football, fantastic stadium facilities, undying and devoted fan support - despite horrendous past performances. Plus I'm sure Holtz was getting tired of sitting behind the desk every Saturday, yaking about football instead of being directly involved. How long had he been out of coaching? 4 or 5 years? This is Spurrier's first year in the NFL and there's no way he'd leave this early, unless he get's fired.
And anyway, do we even sell GT visors?

It appears all of the subposters did not understand the reasoning behind my post to BeeWare. I am not advocating searching for another coach at this time.

I feel BeeWare understands the reason for this question, and that is the reason he is not answering.

Ahsoisee, the real reason Beeware isn't answering your question is that he doesn't want to set a new precedent. If you answered you, he might be expected to answer others and we all know he never answers a direct question.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">no Bobby Dodds Ghost .. i don't think Chan Gailey will quit. I think he'll be a helluva coach at Tech for a long time.

But I do think that you're a jerk. Sad that fellow tech fans can be jerks.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">hey ahsoisee,

i realized what you were trying to do with this post. that's why i posted that you're wasting beeware's time (your time actually).

beeware doesn't reply to anything that does not further his agenda. his sole agenda on this board is to convince everyone that MacWhorter should have been hired.

Nobody else can coach well at Tech.
Nobody else can recruit well at Tech.
MacWhorter is God.
How dare Dave Braine not hire God.

do not expect beeware to post or reply to a post when he cannot repeat the above paragraph.

It should be obvious at this time why BeeWare will not answer this post. It would have made no difference to him as to who was offered the job. The posts from BeeWare would have contained the same venom as that aimed at Gailey regardless of the coach chosen.

The only coaches that would have made him happy would have been the choice of Mac as head coach, with O'Brien as OC, and Roof as DC. Taffe, Robinson, Strong, etal, would have received the same treatment from BeeWare as Chan is getting from him.

BeeWare, obviously, has some associations with some of the former coaches, or possibly someone demoted within the ranks at GT. Maybe, he was the one demoted for mishandling some information at Tech. Who knows, it is obvious, he has other axes to grind.

It has nothing to do with common sense. Common sense would have eliminated all of the previous staff as candidates, the same way Braine and the committee eliminated them.

The initial statement by Braine before the search ever began was, "no member from the present staff will be considered for the job". It is highly possible the committee was behind this declaration and that it was passed on to Braine.

At any rate, as stated before, no AD in the entire world would have chosen Mac, O'brien, or Roof over Chan Gaily, when matching up the resumes and recommendations.

It is nothing more than a child's tantrum when he did not get his way.

Now, do you care to respond in answering the question to prove me wrong?

Might be better served to send a message to Beeware in this case.

But, what do I know? Not much.

Go Jackets!
