AC is back

Has he? Couldn’t notice really. Perhaps he is the one continually blocking David Curry.

Our DL problems are greater than just one player.
DL isn’t really a problem. We’ve play decent against the run in every game, and gotten more pressure this year than I can remember in recent memory. And have done so with a bunch of guys missing up front.

For context, we are on pace for 22 sacks in 11 games. We haven’t had more than 18 teams sacks since 2013 when Attachou had 12.5 on his own. A few years in there wehad 15 or less sacks (in seasons with 12-13-14 games and that included a few cupcakes)

Back 7 has been our defensive liability

AC's bullrush showed his power as he was pushing that DT into the backfield on several plays, just never got completely off the block or the QB got the ball out quick and he wasn't able to capitalize. Not a bad showing for his first live game in some 2 years now and coming off an injury. I expect he will get better over the next few games.

Which is the opposite of what most people thought going into the season. I was convinced the secondary was a strength. Not sure how much of a weakness they have really been, but they are not the bullwark I was expecting.

What I really liked about this part was that it's clear guys are being taught rush lanes. Our lines are definitely getting better despite the showings on the scoreboard and the mistakes. Improvement is definitely there. I'm ok with incremental development.

It seems like the whole defense Is pretty bad to me- the DL and LB’s are abysmal, and the secondary is disappointing to say the least.

Maybe our secondary didn’t need to gain ten pounds each? Although that hit Tariq put on FSU’s Star WR was a thing of beauty.
FWIW, Tariq was injured and missed a good bit of summer/fall. I think this plays more of a role in his less than stellar performance so far. He also has seemed a little off since that big hit too. The rest don't seem to be playing at a bad weight. We just appear to be making bad reads and getting beat. One other thing I've noticed is that our CB's have been playing soft again. I thought we were going to play more press man/bump and run coverage and I thought we were looking better when we did that. For some reason we seem to have drifted from that and are again playing soft. Maybe that's a side effect of the bad safety help we've been getting over the top. IDK.

I think our DL is holding it's own all things considered. They were supposed to be one of the major weaknesses in the defense this year and I think they are actually playing pretty well. We have been decent defending on the inside runs except when there is a hole that a LB is supposed to be filling left wide open (that's what happened on the long Syracuse TD run Saturday). We have generated some pressure just with the front 4 and even playing a 3 man front against UCF we were getting held like crazy or we would've had more pressures/sacks. We definitely have not been pushed around like we have seen in the past on the DL.
