The progress report for basketball came out and The Sun reported taht Tech was okay as well as every other school but Clemson and Maryland.

Tech had a score of 931, the Div 1 average was 928, Public School Average was 918 and passing was 925 (roughly 60% graduation).

I don't know about Clemson, but Maryland will not be docked scholarships because of how the players left or something. It's very confusing. Erick Christianson of the NCAA said "There isn't a penalty there because they would not be returning students, so that is an exception that we grant." I can't seem to figure that out.

But anyway, Tech is in the clear for basketball.

"There isn't a penalty there because they would not be returning students, so that is an exception that we grant." I can't seem to figure that out.

maybe the students failed out of school, thus they will not be returning students, and simultaneously they are no longer athletes on the team not progressing toward a degree because they are not enrolled at all. so, the only way it makes sense to me is if you are penalized if you try to keep the player on the team but they are not progressing, whereas if you cut him loose, then you are ok

confirmations?? refutations??

Probably means the students left but were in good academic standing when they did. I think the rule is that you can't replace students who are 0, meaning they leave AND are not in good standing. I can't find a clear explanation in the NCAA's jargon but that's my guess. If they had flunked out though, I don't think they would have been able to replace them.

So how about the football players that transferred this year? And JJ, who elected not to play? Do they count against us?
