So why is it that the Capital One Bowl (SEC #2) pays out $1 million more than the Chick-Fil-A Bowl (ACC #2)? And why is the Capital One a #2 vs. #2 while the CFA is a #2 vs. #5?

It's always irked me a bit about the #2 vs. #5 but I never noticed the payout difference until now.

The Peach is not "#5", it shares the 3/4/5 picks with the Cotton and Outback.

As for why the Capital One's payout is higher, I think you answered your own question: it matches the first non-BCS picks from two historically strong conferences. The Peach also used to be ACC #3, but they upped their ACC payout two years ago after expansion.

Most bowls will rework their deals after this year or next, so we could see some changes with the Peach's alignment in the hierarchy.

It would be nice to see the ACC gain another New Year's Day non-BCS bowl. We have one right now, while the SEC has three and the Big 10 has 2.

The SEC brings more fans. It's all business, and the rabid SEC fans are good business.

Exactly...the ACC cannot even sell out its conference championship game. We (the ACC) simply do not have the fanbase, nor the amount of sidewalk fans....regardless of how good our football gets.

We may as well get used to it...the only way to a traditional big-time bowl is by winning the ACC CG.

Yes, BUT, if I was Swofford, I'd point out to the Gator that the Big East really struggles to bring fans to that bowl and the teams they are picking from aren't very good. I would try to make a deal to take the Big 10 slot in Orlando and move it to the Gator Bowl and obviously move the ACC into Orlando.

That's how it should be:

ACC 2
SEC 2
Big 10 2

All three play each other instead of just Big 10 v SEC.

Remember that the Gator Bowl changed their deal....they do not have to take a Big East team. Their deal allows them to take a Big 12 team or Notre Dame as well. This year the Gator will likely invite Nebraska or Missouri.
