ACC elects to keep current football schedule format

Good! ESPN does not better to be dictating the league's schedule. Given the current trajectory of the league, it makes no sense to force another loss on half the league each year.

The decision will cost each school about $500,000 in television revenue
...
a move toward more intraconference football games was hotly contested by several schools with annual rivalry games outside the league

Read: Clemson and FSU killed it because they make more than that in the playoff and don't need any more obstacles in their way.

NC State athletic director Debbie Yow said she voted for the 9+1 schedule.

"I like playing conference teams. Now we play Duke twice in 12 years," she said. "There's a problem with that."

This is also probably why it died.

A woman AD saying they wanna play Duke more than twice in 12 years?

We can give them Duke, they can play them all season if they'd like.

I can think of a few other ways to spin it:

1) Everyone else read that statement and said man, if we do this, we have to play Duke and their zero fans here, or go play in their 100 seat stadium over there. Might as well go back to 7 games instead.

2) That's the best non-financial argument on the "Let's change everything so we can get a few more quarters" side, and nobody wants to be seen as that pathetic except apparently Debbie Yow.

A good strategy. We should stick with the 8 games but only make divisional games count. Dump the cross divisional rival. If you want that extra game, use one of your 4 other games to schedule it.

It's not really 9+1. 5 schools will have 9+1+ND. If your +1 is a rivalry game against a historically strong team, you're in trouble.

At a minimum they should have voted to have 8 ACC games + 2 power 5. (Allowing ND to count as power 5).

Guessing we voted to do 8 + 2 since we try to do that every year anyway. I wonder if we will slide back our scheduling now...no more Vandy:ughcry:

I guess the new AD could do whatever he wants. I assume we'll keep doing our 10 power 5 games a year (8 ACC, UGAg + random?) + 1 FCS + 1 group of 5. I would like to see the FCS game go away replaced by G5 team at a minimum.

How bout we play Tulane every year rather than an FCS team. Rekindle an old SEC rivalry, give Tech fans a chance to go on a trip to New Orleans every other year.

Our other G5 team could be Southern and we can play that every year. Then on years we don't play ND we can schedule another SEC team. I think that would be a helluva schedule.

Put your resume in for Associate AD right now.

I also want to crush GA State for shits and giggles at least once.

Simple math. Is the extra TV dollars offered worth more than the gate/concessions/parking from one home creampuff every two years.

My guess is it is not for ~8 schools.

Maybe not the teams you think. Every conference is doing this sort of schedule. Do you know how much money Wake could command in a year or two? They meet the P5 requirement. They could probably draw 1 million or more from most of the SEC without traveling more than a few hours.
