With FSU/UM facing off Monday night;

BC, CU, GT, UNC did what they were supposed to do

NCSt played poorly against a mid-tier SEC team, WF poorly against a bottom-feeder Big 12 team that has won 10 games in the last 3 seasons. MD reeked against a top 15 Pac 10 team.

UVA and Duke are outright embarrassments after yesterday.

Next week for the losers:

UVA vs TCU, Duke vs Army
MD vs James Madison, WF vs Stanford, NCSt vs Murray St

These teams are our opponents, some we have disdain for, but you want to see your conference hold it's own. Yesterday, like the beginning of '08, was pretty bad. At least VT held their own against an SEC power.

But there is work to be done before this conference regains respect from the national media. Until that happens, I'm afraid that the top-tier teams in the conference may be slighted in the polls.

Baylor isn't going to be the bottom feeder this season, their QB is legit. That being said WF shouldn't have lost to them.

It's those games that make the perception of the ACC what is is.

UVA will lose to TCU
Duke will lose to Army
MD could easily lose to James Madison
WF and NCSt should win...

Honestly what we need to hope for the ACC is that we have a strong enough non-conference and bowl record that we put ourselves firmly at number 3 conference spot. I don't think we could look higher this season. Being above the Big 10 has some good odds after watching Ohio St almost lose to Navy. As for the Pac-10, Oregon's lose helps us in that regard and if the conference can beat up on its a little bit its perfectly plausible.

I think if the ACC has 2-3 teams that can hang around in the top 15, people will forget about the others.

Even more so if one of them can hang around in the top 5.

IMO, the pressure is on us, VT, and FSU to carry the conference. I'm not sold on Clemson, BC, or Miami as real contenders.

The Big Ten or Eleven also had a horrible day yesterday. Iowa had to block two field goals to beat Northern Iowa, Minnesota beat Syracuse in OT, Indiana snuck by Eastern Kentucky, and Wisconsin slipped by that powerhouse Northern Illinois. With OSU struggling, the conference doesn't appear that strong top to bottom.

The difference is, they still all won.

On the flipside, Miss St and Vandy looked pretty good.

Yeah, October may have gotten just a little bit tougher than it was already figured to be --although it would seem UVA in Charlottes-web-ville should see the end of the drought there. Then again I wouldn't have believed GT loses to UVA at homecoming last year, particularly after GT's opening drive or two.

First, I must say that pun needs a bit of work. Second, I think we can draw a parallel to how our team acted after those opening drives against UVA and the opening drives yesterday.

I think VT did what they were supposed to do as well. But even that wasn't good enough to beat a very good Alabama team.

The rest of the conference (except F$U and UM) was nothing short of humiliating.

Let's face it. The ACC sucks.

north carolina?

Baylor was 4-8 last year and finished tied for last in the B12 south with TAMU. They may be incrementally better this year, but to say that they should have waltzed into W-S and knocked off WFU is incorrect, IMO. That game should have been a W. So should NCSU, Dook and UVA. That's 4 games this conference should have won but didn't. The only game we really *should* have lost was the Cal-UMD game.

You can't pull for this conference in football. It will drive your nuts. Just stay focused on GT.

A healthy Evans may have made some difference last night, but Bama was the better team. VT struggled mightily on offense.

VT played very hard. Played vicious.

I just think their D was on the field too long.
