Politics as usual win out. I think GT, FSU, Clemson, Maryland and Virginia were hoodwinked.
Remember, Swofford is a UNC guy. UVA did not want VT in the ACC where it would lose a significant
recruiting advantage. Swofford got his 7 votes to expand; and obviously it resulted in Duke and UNC putting UVA in a position that forced them to join them in not passing the proposed expansion.
UVA was then forced, politically in-state, to support VT if the ACC is to expand at all.
My feeling is that Duke and UNC hope Miama reneges and VT is the only addition, but they were willing to accept the risk.
With 4 schools in NC, 2 in VA that group can still control the ACC. If the original proposal had gone through, 7 of the schools would be outside those states and tobacco road would no longer be in control.
Dang!!!!!
