Actually, Tech bros, every poster has been right

I haven't seen a post on this board that has been wrong. BW & every poster had reason to cripe & point out things necessary to turn it around. The criticism doled out here has pretty much been right on. Every post had some, if not total, merit. No one has hated GT or tried to hurt GT. If something blows up, ya need to get after it & work harder or smarter. Even if I haven't been very criticle (& I have been on some pts), I do not mind the Tech fans who were not happy with so-so play & effort or bonehead moves.
The fact is, GT is playing & coaching better than we were while losing games we could have won. AJ's better. Clinkscale has emerged as a star(who saw that coming?). The Oline is protecting much better. Game plans & schemes are being put together better. Players we counted on in spring & summer practice aren't here. STs, which stunk, are better. In game adjustments are better. The STAFF is working better as a whole. The team is working better as a whole.
None of this means we shouldn't have criticized when things were going badly. I'm VERY GLAD that Tech people care enough about our programs to let everyone in the GTAA know that we ain't gonna put up with 'almost' getting there. These people are well paid in high profile jobs & they answer to US! Perhaps some people on the football staff underestimated how vehement the Tech community can be when riled over losing to WF, Clem & Mary.
I repeat, no one has been wrong. It would have been wrong if we had not spoken out over being 1-3 in the ACC. That stinks! If these coaches want to try that again next yr, then they'll hear an even louder howl & it may not stop with a coupla Ws next yr. Braine & everybody he hires had better know that we'll get them all outta here if they don't want to give the effort to get us in some very good Bowls & get us some championships.
P.S. There has also been heart-felt concern over our recruiting & justifyably so right now. The entire GTAA had better give maximum effort on our recruiting or they're gonna get stung quite badly come Feb by the REAL Yellow Jackets.

Right on GT Ace! If we fans don't care enough to hold the coaches feet to the fire, who will care?

Very wise post. I don't think anyone would go to the effort of signing up and posting on this board if we didn't care about GT sports and want our teams to perform to the best of their ability.

I think the NC State result proves that Tech has the personnel to compete with anyone in this league (maybe not the nation, not yet) and our earlier losses to Clemson, the Virgins, and WF are evidence that things weren't clicking. Everyone has a little bit of Monday Morning Quarterback in them, and part of the fun of following a team religiously and passionately is to put in your 2 cents and vent some steam if things go poorly.

I hope some of the posters on this board that attack anyone who criticizes the coaches or administration understand that we all want the same result, but just see the path to get there differently.

Very well put Beezoner,we all love the Jackets but we don't always agree on where the problems lie.

Right Ahsoisee. No one cares if we fall flat on our faces, but us Tech fans. We are the keepers of the flame.
Nailed it Beezoner. That's all any poster on this board is trying to do. We all want GT's program to be as good as any in the country & we all want to give advice on what we see as possible, or real, landmines. Every one posting here wants Tech to be 13-0 this yr & I'm glad that most are not happy with 6-3 & want better. If you don't strive for the top ya can't get to the top.

Yes and no. Disagreeing on the approach to problem solving is one thing. Booing student athletes, booing coaches, sending hate email etc., only drives a wedge in relationships (or did you people forget that human beings, very young ones are out there playing this game?). How would you feel if your kid in highschool was being booed when he ran onto the field? His confidence not established yet because he had not played but a couple games. The new coach.... Imagine taking a job and transferring to a new location. 6 weeks into it you are being screamed at by averyone around you. What kind of emotion do you invest in that company? You folks miss the point entirely and I bet your boss treats you with a lot more respect than you have shown this bunch.

captainG - we're talking about this board. Don't know how you extrapolated our posts to Bobby Dodd stadium or booing coaches.

i agree with y'all ...

but tell me what you guys think about posts like this .. and i quote .. and paraphrase a bit i guess .. but you get my point.

"there is no doubt that there has been a significant downgrade in the o-line coaching"

"this is without doubt the worst coaching staff ever assembled in the free world"

"we will pay for Braine dead's folly for ages"

"Braine dead's decision to hire an unproven college football coach will be the doom of the football program at the flats"

"we lost the entire staff that could recruit and now we will never be able to recruit in the state of georgia and mark my words that our program is doomed"

sure these are opinions .. and my point is that these opinions are not and cannot be substantiated with facts. these opinions are repeated again and again .. without any backing of any factual data .. and if data is presented .. it is twisted and manipulated to suit the presentors agenda.

when actions .. and Coach Gailey's actions are speaking for themselves .. are proving that the above opinions are wrong .. the opinionater doesn't come on to ...

a) either defend his opinions
b) or back away from them

what do you think?

well .. i'm going to dig up some quotes! i have some time to kill ...

here we go.

The key word to describe the current state of recruiting at TECH?.....SAD.

The key word to describe Gailey's excuses for the lack of recruiting?.....LAME.

Long term affect on TECH's football program?....DISASTER.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">
We will pay for this lousy recruiting that this lousy coaching staff is doing.....MARK IT DOWN.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">
goldmember,
No need to worry about recruiting. I understand that after the season that former pro coach Chan Gailey is going to conduct a draft for any players that we need.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">
Mainly due to the different coaching hires, Ugag's expectations are very high and Tech's are virtually nil. Sad, really.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">
Beezoner,
No question about it...we will be paying for Braine's folly for a long long time.
We deserved better.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">
It is indeed a shame, a tragedy really, that TECH didn't follow that lead and hire someone with Division 1 college coaching skills. Allowing Chan Gailey to come here and semi-retire on our dime is obviously NOT the answer.....it wasn't the answer last December and is not the answer now. It is only going to get worse.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">
I listened to the first 30 min or so of the Chan Gailey call in show. It really is amazing to listen to him. I was hoping someone would call in and ask if they could check him to see if he had a pulse.
No fire....no emotion...no plan. It is pretty obvious that what we have already seen from Coach Gailey is what we are going to get.
Truly pathetic. If we win any more games it will definitely be in spite of this head coach and this staff.
We deserve better.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">
Not promoting Mac and not keeping a great staff and espcially a great recruiting staff and not building on Coach O'leary's success, will go down as the biggest mistake in TECH history. Dave Braine's folly. It was not necessary. But we will all pay for it....we already are.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">
By not promoting Mac and not keeping an outstanding group of assistant coaches and recruiters and not keeping the momentum of 5 straight bowl games and 5 straight Top 25 finishes, Dave Braine has shown that he is totally unable to learn from the (not too distant) past. We are all paying for and will continue to pay for a long long time for the Dave Braine folly.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">so many more .. almost every post is like this and he has like 750 posts! .. LOL

I'll take that Ylojk8.
At the time GT was floundering with a team & staff that many, including myself, thought would be much better than 1-2, 1-3 after Clem WF & Mary. Things were not meshing vs other ACC brethren. There was considerable doubt in many, many people's mind on whether we had chosen correctly or not. (Let me say that a 2 game winning streak does not completely alleviate these doubts for me). We were coming off 5 straight yrs of Bowls. We DO NOT want to sink to the bottom of the ACC & it sure looked like we were headed that way.
At that time, those statements had quite a bit of merit to them. We could still finish 6-6, 7-5 which would be below my expectations & I will be watching this new staff very closely.
We really don't need everyone lukewarm, but we need some fire on both ends of the spectrum, as well. My posts of the past several weeks of how good AJ is becoming was met with a good bit of ho-humming, but thinking has changed now. So has the thinking from when we were 1-3ACC to 3-3ACC.

beezoner...you are correct in that I engaged in scope creep. I know there were threads on this board started by individuals defending their right to boo (that is how I got there anyway). Bad coaching takes care of itself down the road. In the mean time, we need to take care of the psyches of these players (and coaches for that matter) until they have had enough time to be evaluated fairly. Making people second guess thmeslves and lose confidence only exacerbates an already bad situation. This is a fundamental aspect of "coaching" and "development" in the real sense of the words. These are not esoteric concepts that intellegent Tech fans should have a hard time grasping. I just don't understand why we were not a little more patient. Maybe we would have won the Wake and or Maryland games if some of the pressure had been off. Who knows? I do think I need to do something else today but it has rained here all morning. I hope to see an overstuffed stadium in Atlanta next Saturday and please remember to not sell tickets to criminole fans.

GT ACE .. never have these quotes been relevant.
give me a break.

hire a new coach.
new QB, new RB.
crazy injuries.

fine anyways, read whatever you want as to how the early season went. opinionate as you want too ...

but where is the quoted person now? let him come forth and say that he's .. gulp .. "wrong"

CaptainG, here we go again! I have not heard one single poster say they agree with booing the student athletes. How does this always get into the mix?

There is myself and others with the stated opinion that it is acceptable to boo the coaches decisions and the referees decisions.

As I have stated before, you try to have me thrown out of the stadium for booing, and the security gaurd will laugh you to scorn. On the other hand, if you try to intimidate me for booing at the stadium, I can report you to the security guards and have you thrown out of the stadium.

Same song 15th verse, anyone buying a ticket has the right to boo if they desire, and there is nothing you or anyone else can do about it. It is the purchased right of the ticket buyer to show his pleasure or displeasure with the state of the game.

Booing the coaches and referees is the right of the ticket buyer to show his displeasure to the staff. Some have said for the booer to send an Email to Braine or the staff rather than booing. If the person prefers to take that avenue, well and good, but he does not have to. It is his decision to boo or not to boo.

You failed to address my explanation of the why booing is unacceptable in this context. You failed to acknowledge the affects it has on the student athlete. You have failed to develop yourself as a passionate, yet compassionate Tech fan so you could realize where that fine line is between booing a referee's bad call (as I do myself) and when a student athlete could think he is being booed. I would rather the stadium be half full with people like me than be filled with a bunch of a-holes. Come play for our great program young men, but if you don't play to perfection and win big, we will boo you, your coach and humiliate you into submision. Yeah team! You and BW were always saying we Tech fans deserved better. I think it is more like these young men and the coaches deserve better fans.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">This is one of those years where I must say I agree with this quote. Especially in regards to fans on our message boards, which by the way I do not feel is always a good "population" of the GT fan base as far as opinions go.

Do still feel that GT has some of the greatest fans in all of college football.

There has been some trials to over come the past 12 months in the football program. In some ways the fans have come through with flying colors! In some ways they have not. That's my opinion. No, I am not always right. No, I don't feel as though I'm a better GT fan than anyone. Do feel that the players and coaches have come through this with flying colors. Am really proud of THE TEAM.

Still a lot of football to be played. GOO JACKETS!

CaptainG, I have addressed that so many times, I am sure the rest of the board is tired of hearing it. However, it happens to be posters like yourself that think your opinions are the truth rather than opinions.

I and some others believe booing has and will always be part of the game and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it, but show your ignorance regarding the matter.

All athletes that have played sports in front of crowds can easily differentiate the booing attributed to coaches, players, and referees. If you don't know the difference, then maybe you should learn.

Some have erroniously posted that booing affects recruiting. I say it has the least negligible effect of all the characteristics a recruit is considering when looking at a achool.

Some one entered a post several days ago where some recruits were polled regarding their reasons for and against attending certain schools. The topic of booing was not even on the list.

If a kid is listening to the booing and it is affecting his game, he should be on the bench. If you have ever played sports in front of crowds, you would know you would be so intent into the game and thinking about your assigments, that you would not be concentrating on anything coming from the crowd.

Shouting, yelling, roaring, and stamping of the feet in positive times during the game encourages the team, but booing has almost no effect. It is generally sporadic and lasts only a few seconds to show displeasure to a coach's call or a referee's decision.

Don't even mention the athletes to me, they are not part of the equation of booing the coaches and referees. They also know the reason for the booing. They are not dumb.

Get off your high horse and come back down to earth.

Ylojk8, yes, that is exactly right. I am sure you make a fool of yourself at times. Does not the booer have the same right.

What makes you God that ensures your opinion of booing is right as opposed to another who thinks it is okay.

You are setting yourself up as the judge, and the judge, you are not. You only have an opinion, the same as everyone else. Maybe you are not a good fan, because you don't care how bad a coach is performing his task. You don't boo when he is consistently making the same major bad decisions game after game, thus you are part of the problem in the breakdown of the team.

The ones booing are showing their displeasure the same as stockholders in a company. After all, it is the fan's money paying the coaches salaries. I wonder if you would have been a hypocrit and booed if you went to all of the games when Bill Lewis had the bad season?

Maybe you were there, and maybe you did boo at that time. Then that would make you a double hypocrit for acting as judge against the people that want to boo during any other sports period.

I think all people that do not boo and show their displeasure when coaches are consistently making bad calls and the team is tanking are not good fans. They are only ostrichs with their head in the sand.

Over the last 50+ years of going to sports games and veiwing them on TV, I have probably witnessed billions of people that have shown their displeasure by booing the coaches when it was appropriate. I guess you are right and those billions of people over the years are all wrong.

Grow up and look at the real world. Is this post harsh? Definitely, but you deserve it for trying to make yourself a judge over the actions of others when you have no idea what you are talking about.
