Saturday on the 'Radio Good Word' GT's Dan Radakovich responded to querries from Wes Durham. Rad likes the 'balance' of our schedules right now. He likes the Mississippi St, Ole Miss, Alabama & Vanderbilt games coming up. He's 'delighted' with the 2 for 1 Tech got from Middle Tennessee St. Rad wants to continue to play teams were we recruit, i.e. the deep South.
It appears that the scheduling of 1aa teams will continue, with J'ville St in '08-'09, SCar St in '10 & Elon in '13. I've heard that Ga Southern has been promised '11 if they want it.
A team the AD is trying to line up is Tulane in Conference USA. Rad thinks a trip to New Orleans would be good all around. We are talking to Pitt & Syracuse from the Big East. GT may already have a signed contract to play @ 'Cuse in 15 & H in '16. I don't like a series w/Syracuse as it doesn't seem to do us any good, but the papers may have been signed. Pitt would be a-OK as we do recruit Pennsylvania & Ohio, a little.
Rad is after a H&H with Auburn & South Carolina from the SEC. He'd like to add both & I believe he will, but it'll be '13,'15,'16 or '17 before he does.
The AJC did a short article on the subject:

And a future sched from national champs.net.........

We won't get Auburn again while Tubberville's there. He promised that after we beat them a second time, hehe.

How about trying to schedule LSU instead of Tulane? Playing LSU would be MUCH more exciting and better for recruiting imo.

Just to play devil's advocate, it wouldn't help recruiting to get killed by LSU. If we're going to try to get them on the schedule it had better mean we're serious about stepping things up significantly.

Obviously the polls will reward ACC teams with great records regardless of OOC schedule strength...and we have UGA every year.

Look who is ranked #2...the Boston College team that has not played anyone in the Top 25. It is not VaTech who is undefeated with exception of their game against LSU!

Tulane would be a good fit for a non-conference opponent. There is a history there --GT faced Tulane every year from 1956-1982. Also, there is a history of success too as GT is 35-13 against the Green Wave --.729 being the highest winning percentage that Tech owns against any opponent (minimum of 20 games played).

side note: GT's highest winning percentage against any opponent with a minimum of 10 games played --VMI 14-1 .933.

Radakovich's idea of

a balanced schedule is the Georgia gm, 1aa gm @ home, 1 H&H with a recognized opponent (ND, Miss St, Ole Miss, Ala) & a gm vs a middling 1a team, usually H&H (Army, Mid Tenn St, Vandy). Therefore, Rad is looking for the middling teams in the future (Tulane, Syracuse) as much as he is looking for the big name draw (Auburn, SCarolina).
GT's AD also says he wants the big name draw to be @ home when Tech is @ Athens & away when Tech hosts Athens. Not always possible. So far, Rad is doing an excellent job of putting together the schedules.
