I don’t believe the theory that we can’t compete with the elite. I watched Gibbs lead Bama in rushing and Ivey make the game winning play for Ole Miss. You get a recruiter that can attract that caliber athlete and a head coach that can assemble a good staff and knows how to run a program, Tech can be a big winner. We’ve had coaches here before that had those qualities but they moved on. I would put most of O’Leary’s and Ross’s teams against anybody in the country. So … we just have to find The Man …

The current "the Man" is looking much more the attacking, commanding and thinking football type of leader that I like to see.

O'leary had fridge, Bill O'brien, and other solid coaches. If you look at Wake Forest that is the blue print. You will have to find a coach is a GREAT X'S AND O'S guy and then pay $$$ for an assistant that can recruit

Yes Wake is a very good looking team this year. But they are all fourth and fifth year players. Teams like Wake and Duke are happy to have a good team every third or fourth year. Tech has won in the past without that. Here's hoping we don't ever look at our program as a once every four years team.

If Wake and NC State can field top-15 programs without resorting to gimmickry, we can too.

Wake isn’t a competitive every 4-5 year program any more. Wake has been a top 15 program 2 straight years and will go to a 7th consecutive bowl this year.

It’s not the 1-11 talent on each side of the ball that is the biggest difference between Alabama, UGA, Clemson, Ohio State to a majority of the rest of the teams. It’s the 12-33. Those teams have superior 4,5* depth. Most programs can’t afford an injury to a key player or 2, however the depth of those schools is next 4,5* up. It would be extremely hard for GT to build enough depth to have the type of program that is always competing at a high level.

You’re comparing the landscape of CFB from even 5 years ago to now. Things have drastically changed with conference expansion, NIL and the Portal. Kids are no longer truly locked into a program. They can leave pretty much after 1 semester and go to a different program without having to sit a year.

Wake and Duke have been just as succesful as GT over the past 10 years. Duke has only had 3 losing seasons from 2012 until now. Wake has had 5. How many has GT had? 5.

I'm automatically going to discount anyone who thinks the last 5 years of GT football have anything to do with "changing college landscape", Or that our program is on par with Wake and Duke.

We win 3 games a year because of a öööö coach, lose players, GT fans: it’s because of NIL and portal changing the landscape. Clowns all around.

The Wake hype will be more believable after Hartman is in the NFL. History’s littered with HC’a looking awesome with a great QB under center. Bellicheat, Nardookie, etc.

So if the last 5 years (not even including this year) don’t have to do with the “changing landscape of CFB” by all means, tell me what does it have to do with? Poor recruiting before Collins (2017, 2018 under Johnson)? Poor coaching under Collins (2019-present)? What’s the reason for the massive drop off of GT football even prior to Collins?

If you don’t think GT (who is currently at the bottom of the ACC) isn’t on par or below Wake & Duke over the last 5+ years, you may need to check the on field results:

2017:
GT - 5-6
Wake - 8-5
Duke - 7-6

2018:
GT - 7-6
Wake - 7-6
Duke - 8-5

2019:
GT - 3-9
Wake - 8-5
Duke - 5-7

2020:
GT - 3-7
Wake - 4-5
Duke - 2-9

2021:
GT - 3-9
Wake - 11-3
Duke - 3-9

2022:
GT - 2-3
Wake - 4-1
Duke - 4-1

Again, the drop off of GT started before Collins. The results don’t lie. So again, if it doesn’t have to do with the landscape of CFB changing, etc, what does it have to do with? Any time people mention the lack of funds dedicated towards football matching even half of the programs around GT, it’s scoffed at. So where is the disconnect between GT being a relevant program in the worst P5 conference in the country?
