AJC: Alcohol Ban

They do this every few years and every few years it fails..

so much for separation of church and state.

Over 7,000 signatures a day and word is still getting out. I think it may have a little more legs this time. I've got a buddy that's a lawyer and he's looking into helping the cause.

Never understood why this is such a big deal. Just buy it Saturday night.....

Never understood why its such a big deal to allow Georgian citizens to buy alcohol on Sunday....They can buy it in restaurants, except they have to drive home afterwards

Exactly. You can get sloshed at the sports bar for Sunday NFL and drive home. But you can't drive sober to the grocery store on Sunday to buy beer to consume in the relative safety of your living room. As hypocritical as it comes

Spealing of drinkin', I wonder if the AUC would be any better if they banned drinkin' by their writers during lunch. Aren't journalists (a term loosely applied to some of the people at the AUC I know) some of the heaviest drinkers there are?

I lived in Nashville, Tn (otherwise known as "the buckle of the bible belt") for umpteen years and they stop beer sales at the quiksak at 2AM Sunday (or it may be midnight on Sunday but it's 2 the rest of the week) and resume at Noon on Sunday. Gives all the folks going and coming to Sunday School a respite from all the drunken hooligans madly rushing about to purchase alcohol and still allows for the "oops, I ran out again" just before game time, etc. scenario. Package stores are closed but you can buy beer at the local market after Noon. It's just that waiting til Noon part that's so frustrating ...:D

That's a stupid reason to uphold a ridiculous law. Just because some people don't want us to purchase beer on Sunday doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to.

one of my clients just got 19 months in jail for drinking and driving (3rd in 10 yrs).

To be perfectly honest with you, I couldn't care less when people buy alcohol. I don't drink, but I'm not a "you're a horrible person who is going to hell for drinking" type either.

Good. He's obviously a douchebag. What does that have to do with Sunday sales though?

exactly, alcoholics can still go to a bar on sunday, has absolutely nothing to do with ability to buy it in a store.

the law is ridiculous. If you want it, you can get it on sunday just not at a retail store. Its just dumb all around.

The funny thing is the biggest people in favor of the Sunday ban are the liquor store owners, because they know people will buy their Sunday booze on Saturday, which means they get to sell 7 days worth of booze in 6 days.

If it were up to me there'd be alcohol delivery men. Think of how many "**** we ran out of beer" DUIs could be prevented that way.
