AJC Article: Dwyer for Heisman (unannounced candidate)

I don't think Dwyer will get enough touches to win the Heisman, although if he has another season like last year, it would be a travesty not to include him in the conversation.

Is it just me, or has the AJC (although still very pro UGA) started to lean a little more towards GT lately?

Following up on this, I noticed these tidbits in the article and the comments:

Mark Bradley:
"If Jonny Dwyer — that’s what Paul Johnson calls him — doesn’t finish in the top five, I’ll be surprised. And if C.J. Spiller finishes ahead of him, I’ll sit myself down and eat a bowl of Special K."

Mark Bradley in response to a "LSU figured out Tech" comment:
"LSU didn’t so much figure out Tech’s system as Tech forgot how to kick the ball and field kicks. Go check the play-by-play. That game was lost by special teams in the first half."

Of course they have. People fail to see this, but U[sic]GA has been an elite program the last six or seven years, while we have been astoundingly mediocre. That's where most of the bias came in. Now that we are starting to actually move in the right direction, they actually have something good to write about us.

Go look at any AJC article about Paul Johnson or any AJC article around the time U[sic]GA lost to Vanderbilt and you will see that success is the main driver of good press. The bottom line is that they've been very successful on the field and we have not, until last season. Hopefully that trend will continue.

You nailed it. The AJC is a business. They couldn't honestly give two damns about either GT or uga. If everyone suddenly wanted to hear about Northside High, both GT and uga would be bumped for Northside so fast it would make your head spin.

Mark Bradley in particular has been writing very glowing things about us for awhile now. If I recall correctly, he took a jab at the dawgs by deeming us 'the best in the state' BEFORE we played them last year.

I know people like to call him Bark Madley, but I've always thought he was very fair to Tech. He maybe didn't write as many articles about us, but when he did they always seemed to be right on the mark (no pun intended). Now that the AJC has him writing about three articles a day, he is obviously able to touch on more subjects, including Tech.

Mark Bradley is better than Tony B. Dwyer can very well be Heisman material. It all depends on his performance in the big games. When he gets 150+ ypg against CU, UM, UNC, VT, FSU, and UGA, he'll be right up there with Tebow, McCoy, and Bradford.

Two requirements for the Heisman:

The team must win a lot of big games; and
The player must be the difference maker in those wins.

So, its entirely conceivable to me that JD can win the Heisman but many things have to happen not only with our team but with other players and teams that leads all fingers to point to JD as the best football player in America.

That's the only thing that kept Joe Ham and CJ from taking home the trophy. We just didn't win enough big games.
