refers to our in-state recruiting. this snippet jumped out at me...

"That’s somewhat of a break with tradition. In the past it was believed that Georgia Tech, due to its unique academic environment and urban setting, needed to search far and wide for players to fit its criteria. Clearly Johnson and his staff don’t think so."

Urban setting?! We've had to go out of state b/c of our urban setting!!:laugher:

Reaching a bit?

I guess we just have to give up. There's no way that Atlanta can compete with the likes of Athens, GA, Starkville, Miss. or Blacksburg, VA.

My best friend who went to Miss State even refers to it as "Starkpatch".

urban setting

If most of the players on our team are African Americans, and since it appears that African American culture puts a lot of emphasis on Atlanta (talking about it in music, etc.), seems to me that a strong football team + the city of Atlanta would be a very desirable experience??...hmmm...ahh, i'm still in bold font ;)

I think this is what Georgie fans prone to paranoia up at night. Just the paranoid ones.

I've heard many fans say this, never believed either of them.

The urban setting was used against us for many years in recruiting along with some other things. Now, rural kids have had a lot more exposure than in the past three or four decades. "Big city" is still a dirty word in some parts of the south, for those of you that live above Forsyth.

The real truth is that for some kids it's a dirty word, and for others it's a drawing card.

Rivals now has our class rated higher than Scout, FWIW. How often have you seen that? Rivals now has McCoy, Ayers, Bostic and Johnson as 4* players, and Perkins and Holton at 3*. Only the two OL and Green are unrated as of today. Interesting.

Totally makes sense to me - who in the hell wants pro sports, college sports, multiple universities, great bar scene, record production companies, concerts, theatre, great food, unlimited culture and job opportunities, and an endless supply of women all in the same town?

People who can't live without barn animals.

Rivals updates again. Now 4-4* and 5-3* recruits... all from the state of Georgia. Looking good.

The bar scene here sucks unless you have people buying your drinks for you. Can't afford that crap :P

Seriously, what college kid would want to play in a small town where everyone worships the team and 90k pack the stands for each and every game? Much better to be in a big city where you will play third fiddle to pro sports and the arts.

Not that there's anything wrong with playing college sports in a big city, I'm sure plenty of kids love it. All those things you said are true. But to pretend that there aren't tremendous advantages to playing college football in a small town as opposed to a big city is just sticking your head in the sand.

Really? There are many places full of sluts and cheap drinks. You sound like someone that has never lived in Atlanta. Sucks for you.

When I was at Tech, the bar scene didn't suck, it was just that I didn't have a salaried job and I looked really young.

You are 100% right! Since I graduated over a year ago and now enjoy a salary, the times I've flown to Atlanta and hit the bars, I've thoroughly enjoyed the relatively cheaper costing drinks, and especially the girls. It's amazing what a little more age on your face, confidence, and money can do to your scoring abilities. Atlanta is FULL of hot women. The farther North you go, the more stuck up the ladies get.
