All this "new coach" talk poses an interesting question......

....If you were a coach, would you rather be hired by a struggling team with a losing record and no talent (Duke), or a winning team with loads of talent and a huge fan base (Florida)?

I would rather go to a school that has not fared well and build it up to a first class program. I would feel like I had accomplished more than following a coach in an already respectable program.

If the school was in division 1A, I would not leave it for another 1A school, unless the school wanting me was my all-time favorite school or my State school. I would not leave and take another job just for more money.

I might agree with asoisee but I would have to qualify it as

1. A BCS school or equivalent (Notre Dame or BYU, possibly others)
2. Not having unreasonable recruiting restrictions (indications are Duke had these before this year)

And I would prefer a less successful program except for GT (of course), Texas, LSU, Bama, FSU, UF, Miami, and possibly UGA. There are advantages to both but a school like Nebraska that IMHO is at a recruiting disadvantage to Texas but has a very successful history would be a tough gig.

Other tough gigs, being the next coach at Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State, Wisconsin, South Carolina and Kansas State.

I would rather build a program up, then remain loyal unsless "my school" came calling or the school I was at did not remain loyal to me.

I would not pull a Bill Curry.
