Tuberville raised to $3.3 million. CG was 2-0 against him.

Tommy Bowden raised to $2.2 million. CG had a better ACC record than Clemson during his 6 years at GT.

This entire coaching thing has gone mad.

I do love the stat that showed LA-Monroe's coach as the lowest paid in D1A...and Saban as the highest. The irony.

I dunno. I thought CCG's salary this year was more like $5m.

I remember when Barry Bonds first signed with SF for like $7m annualized. Shocking! Salaries had gone mad.

Mebbe so. Mebbe no. But the next wave of salaries were closer to the Bonds numbers than the pre-Bonds numbers.

I would never have fired our coach in the post-Saban era without a much larger warchest at our disposal.

Well if this board did not think thye were going to spend at 2 million on a new coach someone needs to be fired

Bingo.

As much as I blame Clough et al for the mess, this is also the fruit of a rookie AD.

As anyone who follows this closely knows, the decision on Gailey had been made months ago.

When you don't have the resources to go after an existing, established HC (and this environment only about 15-20 programs have those resources at their disposal), the risk is huge.

At the end of the day our AD did not understand all of the political machinations required to get what he wanted accomplished. That's a rookie mistake. And it's one that all GT fans, supporters, and student athletes will bear for good or ill for many years.

News flash: The war chest was only going to get smaller w/ Gailey at the helm. I know of plenty of fans that stated they would not be buying season tickets next year if he was still the coach, including myself.

It seems like we had no gameplan for finding a coach from the way this search seems to have gone so far.

No the plan was to hire an up and coming coach and we have plenty of a war chest for that. The problem is the board decided they wanted a proven head coach and those guys don't come cheap. If we had been willing to hire WM or Hatcher or someone like that, what we paid Chan would have been plenty. This thing isn't Drad's doing I don't think.

I would agree that Dan had a plan - hire Muschamp.

Given where we were prepared to go with HC salaries in this environment, did we really have a 'Plan B'???

Wasn't Hatcher the committee's lead, and not Dan's?

Edsall was interviewed but told 'we are leaning elsewhere' so naturally he pulled out.

Nueheisal called us.

I am sure Dan realized all along he didn't have the resources to go after an existing proven HC, but it certainly seems that if we couldn't get through Muschamp, or some other coordinator/lower-tier HC, we would be at significant risk.

I love the chicken little crowd on here. We have plenty good candidates. Money is not a problem. Just because you can pay a certain amount does not mean that you should be willing to pay max for just anybody.

I agree and PJ is not worth $1.8 million IMO!

I think you're forgetting that CG was 0-6 against Richt.
