We go 0-9 on third down for 5/6 of the ballgame and the boys pull through once again, simply amazing.
We have to give Josh credit where it's due. The young one finds a way to win these 4th quarter contests. If we don't have Josh under center that ballgame is not won like it was. We have only competed in 15 games under Johnson, and he has won about three or four of them with late fourth quarter gut wrenching play calling, guiding & motivating.
To think we are winning these fourth quarter showdowns is on the brink of surreal. But amazingly, it is reality. Our coach wins fourth quarter showdowns. Our quarterback wins fourth quarter showdowns.
We go 0-9 on third down attempts until 10:10 left in the fourth DOWN BY THREE, when Josh completes a ball over the middle to our man Allen, destroying the 0% conversion stat. We convert one more that drive and tie the game up with a Blair FG.
Then on the ensuing go ahead drive, we've got the ball 2nd and 15 after the b.s. holding call on Howard. Josh and Bebe connect on 3rd and 11, and man, to think we missed the first nine but converted the next three is nearly beyond my acceptance. I find it amazing indeed.
Last November in the Georgia game, we go 0-6 on third downs until mid way through the third when we start converting 'em and pound out that ballgame. We are pounders when it counts and we are tough.
Not a doubt we are mentally tough with these fourth quarter hard fought gut wrenching victories. If we weren't tough we'd lose 'em all. If Gailey were coach we probably wouldn't even be in the game with 10:10 left in the fourth, but if we were, you sure as hell knew we woulda lost.
And lookie here. We sit 2-0 1-0 in the conference with a trip to Ft. Lauderdale (Miami Springs, wherever Dolphins stadium is) on our minds. If it comes down to another fourth quarter showdown, I've got more confidence than Roger Federer in a U.S. Open semifinal.
Our coach is tough. Our quarterback is tough as grit. Our team is tough as grit. Let's grab us another win Thursday and put it away in the third this time.
