I'd say it's worse. I'd rather be picked by an idiot that knows he's a gimmick than an idiot that's just trying to get someone's attention.

Consider the source. He played for Nebraska when they were essentially the last major college running an option-style offense with any success. The run ends, Nebraska pushes Solich out, brings in the the new (WCO - Bill Callahan) and Nebraska moves squarely into mediocrity.

If GT succeeds under CPJ, then he feels somewhat vindiated that Nebraska F*d up by abandoning the very thing that made it successful for so long (although the downward trend had started long before the decision to give up on the option).
