I propose since we have 5 more years that we all try to get along.

Despite what you may think...

an administrative move is not the answer to uniting the fan base. That will happen only when those of us who do not see progress (defined in on the field results, not in the intangible ways as so often mentioned on these boards) in the program begin to see it. If this story is indeed true things will only get worse as it appears that our AD is not a man of his word.

Re: Despite what you may think...

Explain please. If you're talking about the infamous "improvement" interview I don't honestly remember anything specific about the record.

NCjacket you may be correct about that...

it has been so long that the quote has been linked that I may not recall it in its entirety exactly either. It (being the quote) may NOT have been specific in terms of a record but I am pretty sure that it did indicate that Braine was looking for improvement. It is possible the Mr.Braine intentionally left it vague enought to have wiggle room. Whether or not there has been improvement has been debated on these boards ad nauseum. The fact that it (improvement)is being debated to me means that it is uncertain. I doubt that posters on either USC's boards (to cite 2 examples) debate whether their coaches have improved their programs vis-a-vis their predesecors (sp?).

Re: NCjacket you may be correct about that...

Of course both those programs' predecessors sucked. It's pretty easy to see improvement when things are really bad. It's harder when it's incremental.

OK NC.....

there is a link on this board to a Mark Bradley article in which he quotes Dave Braine as saying 6-5 will not be good enough in 2005. One of those 2 men is a liar.

Secondly, you have made may point by admitting that whatever progress we may have made is "hard to see". It is so difficult that some of us don't in fact see it. Now I agree that there may be a very small percentile of fans who would not admit seeing progress unless we were 11-0 but the fans that I interact with socially and in business are uncertain whether or not any progress has been made.

BTW, that article really gets me excited about GT football.I am as disappointed with Braine as I am at Chan because I believe that CCG, whatever his shortcomings as a HC, is probably doing the best he possibly can or all that he knows to do.

Re: OK NC.....

I'm not arguing your point, only that using USC (either) as a comparison isn't really appropriate.

The problem with Braine is that he's just good at PR. You really can't say what he did even if you believe it. There are better ways to make the point that Tech will never be a football factory without making it sound like we're okay winning 7 a year forever. We need to not let him talk to people.

Re: OK NC.....

I agree with you there, NCjacket. Maybe we can ban him from talking to the media until he's gone. It's looking more and more like we have a lame duck AD.

You may have said this sarcastically, but even if you did isn't it sad that for the last 5 years our football program has been without a positive PR face.

I have sometimes taken that as a "bunker mentality" where the fanbase has been left in the dark. However, my opinion has changed to that our program leaders just don't have the aptitude or desire to connect with its fans and general public.
I don't have a problem with CG not being a PR magnet for Tech. What I have a problem with is that we don't have anyone to do the job. Compare football to basketball. CPH is a great statesman for the program, and its not a result of his recent success. He has always taken the role seriously, and more importantly, he enjoys it.
